Hi guys,
As some of you may already know, I'm selling my TL as I have recently purchased a 2007 Toyota Hilux SR5 V6 D/Cab 4x4. The question is about the hilux. Since one of the tail lights on the hilux has a crack in it, I thought, I may as well buy some cool looking aftermarket while I'm at it. I was looking around and found some. However, they use amber bulbs for the indicators and am not 100% sure it is legal to have amber bulbs at the rear of your car. Is this true? Thanks guys

Use "ghost" bulbs if this is an issue, chrome outside appearance (so sun reflections will not show orange) however they illuminate orange.

A car in qld, must have rear facing amber warning lights.
So I suppose you are ok.
I looked into this to have red flashing indicators in verada tails on my magna.
I could but I would still need amber hazards, so I couldn't do it easily....

I can mail you the docs...

They look cool :D . The guy selling the tail lights said he is supplying amber bulbs with them. But as I said those silver vision ones are cool. I may get a set even if the amber bulbs do end up being legal. He's a seller in qld and I'm guessing that if he sells them, they must be legal. It's just that, I have to take the 'lux for a RWC soon. Here's the link to the lights on eBay: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Toyota-Hilux-05-09-Ute-Black-Altezza-Tail-Lights-Lamps-/400255808621?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d311af46d

I've done a little research into this lately and could only come back with this:
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/pdf/06.pdf

All they talk about in the ADR requirements for front and rear indicators are the colour, brightness levels and angles of view (in addition to the fact they are there of course). Nothing there states whether the lens has to be amber or if it simply needs to flash amber. A lot of new cars don't have amber lights anymore anyone, they just flash that way. Most of the VW range for instance.

You'll find that most modern cars use coloured bulbs instead of the tinted plastic for the reverse and indicator lights, with tail/brake lights remaining red. As long as it flashes yellow/orange, is clearly visible and looks legal, it should be fine.

I'd like to point out, though, that if I remember correctly, there is a standard that tail lights have to comply with, which means they have to have reflective red plastic in the tail lights. (so a car doesn't rear end you when your car is parked in the dark, I guess) from what I can see on the product you listed, it doesn't have any reflectors, unless those things down the bottom are.

I think those red things at the bottom are reflectors. If not I know you can buy stick on reflectors. Anyway I just bought them hope they're all good :D

Yeah as mentioned make sure they have reflectors and also make sure it spreads out the light properly (not sure how to explain it) otherwise it will look tacky. I was behind an S13 at night that had clear rear lights. It looked as if the plastic was just straight through and you could clearly see the bulbs. Looked like a Christmas tree lol.
