View Full Version : Vibration under moderate braking, approaching 0km/h?

Recently I've noticed that if I'm braking at a moderate pace, I've found that there is vibration coming from the front of the vehicle. It's not there constantly, but becomes noticable as I approach complete stoppage, and as I brake heavier (for example, approaching red traffic lights, start braking, and as you approach the line you brake a tad harder to avoid rolling over it). Are the brakes wearing out? Or is it the suspension, shocks or the wheels? It sort of feels like something rubbing against something else, causing slight vibration.
I should also point out that it's not severe vibration, but it is noticable.

First get a wheel alignment done.. this will usually fix it. if not get new pads and get your rotors machined. They can sometimes warp under heat.
It is most likely a warped brake disc, but I had a similar problem - a slight vibration at road speed ie not engine speed related - as I was coming to a halt on a smooth surfaced road. It was not noticeable on rougher surfaces. The vibration was getting worse and finally I found it to be tyres. I had Michelins on and they had some lateral ie sideways runout. Most unusual for michelins and they replaced them under warranty, even though they had done over 45000 km at the time. I had already replaced the front wheel bearings as well, but that was not the problem.

Sounds like slightly warped discs....unless somehow your tyres have become unbalanced..im about to replace my rotors because they are warped as hell!

Get your discs machined/replaced....
You can buy new front or rear discs for $72 a pair freight included on Ebay which is less than it will cost for you to have them machined (unless you know someone in the trade). I replaced both front and rear discs with RDA ones but within 20,000km the vibration is creeping back. You could double check it is not the tyres by swapping front one for the back ones.

Can't stress a wheel alignment enough before anything. mine does this and its a wheel alignment problem.

It is also important to tighten the wheel nuts to the correct torque setting, overtightening can cause discs to warp.
