Hi guys, this is the first I've seen of extractors for a 4 cyl magna.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/150765217899?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1026wt_1037

Now i know stock extractors are cast iron... gee i hope so i dont wanna look like an idiot... but these are just mild steel. are they still ok to use?

If memory serves correctly the standard exhaust manifold on a 4cyl te/tf is in fact mild steel, so you would be replacing it with the same material. Most extractors are only available in mild steel, and are perfectly fine to use on a car that had a cast iron exhaust manifold fitted originally.

These may give you a bit of extra power, but at that price it seems completely not worth it considering how cheaply you can buy a 3.0 or 3.5L Magna.
You'd probably be way better off selling your car and upgrading to one with a bigger engine

In short you would be replacing what you have with pretty much the same thing, waste of money IMO, if this is the car I think it is, may even be worth in the long run to investigate putting a 6G74 into this car.

Agreed. Don't flog a dead horse. Buy a more powerful car or put in a better engine if you want performance increases

I fitted Pacemaker extractors to my 1985 TM (manual) in 1988, and they definitely improved mid-range torque & throttle response.

Cost about $250 including fitting (but it was way back in 1988!)

But that was an old carby Astron 2.6 with "log style" cast iron exhaust manifolds. I guess you have a TE or TF 2.4 litre, in which case I doubt the advertised extractors would be much improvement. And not worth the asking price.

stock manifold is steel. It is a 4-2-1 " ïnterference" design which is well suited to the 2.4L motor and pretty good for a factory manifold. The flange is where it merges to 2 pipes.
These hurricane extractors will not improve power much and will move the torque band higher in the rev range.
Not worth the money unless you want them for looks.
