Since I looked and looked and looked and didn't find much info, even on Google where I can almost find anything! I'm just curious.
For the first time, the lady wants the exhaust louder (I'm actually liking this tone atm)
I posted the other day with my middle muffler removed.
I think actually wants that ricey sound oddly enough. But maybe not she just said louder. :P

But myself, I'm just trying to get a bit of economy back.

So.. the question is, would this engine be able to handle a 2 or 2.25 inch pipe from the cat to the exhaust? Instead of the stock 2.5 (right?)

That way my other resonator's gone too which will help with that sound she wants, and in theory it'll make a higher velocity of exhaust gases leaving. Possibly more back pressure too since its forcing it in a smaller pipe. But then again that'll totally destroy the hp/kw top end.
I guessing my dual 2.5inch tips probably don't help much. (As I've heard, my friend lost soo much mileage throwing a cannon on his honda he said).
I'm personally more interested in just getting it back to normal.

If you do find a thread talking about this, please point me to it, I ran out of keywords to search for. :P
I'd get a varex so I could throw back pressure in but its like 400-450 and shipping I saw was like 100-150 to ship out from you guys out there.

It is upto you but i would keep.2.5 inch. the factory tune is expecting 2.5 inch. 2.25 mandrel bent would be the minimum i would think. would be more effective to just change mufflers.

Alright, yea wouldn't wanna mess with that. What you think as far as muffler? Single 2.5 straight through or like a magnaflow set up?

I'm thinking if the lady wants louder so I chop that other resonator off and then do like a magnaflow set up so it's not too loud.
Gonna YouTube some magnas see what I think. Hard to find some but oh we'll.

Depends what sound u want. Normal resonator in middle with big straight through rear muffler will be quiet but will have a good tone. same middle muffler with smaller rear muffler will be louder. small hotdog resonator and small rear muffler will be even louder but no matter what i recommend keeping a middle muffler/resonator at all times. otherwise ghetto exhaust will be very raspy. As for muffler brand it doesn't really matter. Small magnaflows are very loud and are good quality because they are stainless. However i just put a very small generic sports muffler on mine and i love it.

People on here will recommend lukey or redback bolt on replacements, these sound nice but are very large and won't give you a heap of noise.

You know I'd LOVE a sporty/european exhaust sound. Hard to explain it. Something thats mean when you open it up.

Lol this thread turned into another one of those exhaust threads. Sorry everyone :P
But it did get the question answered so I guess it's not all bad.

If you're after a lot of rasp, small resonator after the cat, straight 2.5 to a straight-through muffler will give you plenty. If you're after a deep smooth note smaller sized centre muffler (not reso) with straight or semi-straight rear muffler depending on what volume you want.

Hmm. Alright, I think I may go with that smaller center muffler. I know for sure I don't want rasp, not with this car anyway. Wanna make this car luxury style with some bite. Then I might add a wing ;).
I'd love the body kit that I've been seeing a lot lately here. All I can say is that the one I remember is black and has a "line" that goes from the bottom of the side-front of the bumper and goes up to the wheel well.
@Life: would that be keeping the smaller (6 inch long more or less) resonator by the back tire? In either situation. Probably more so the deep smooth. I just want to have that one note that sets it apart from the others.

Hence the sport/european idea, not many of those here just lots of rasp or the sexy burble from muscle cars.

That's my exhaust, might not be some people's taste but i like it deep.
... my exhaust that is.

It's the Ralliart HM headers, Hi-flow cat, stock centre pipe which on a ralliart consists of a middle muffler and a small hotdog resonator infront of the rear wheel and a 'sports' muffler that is straight through as a rear muffler, was the smallest regular shaped muffler the exhaust shop had.

On the highway you can only slightly hear it and is moderate-loud when giving it some.
... my car that is.

Thats sexy. So smaller muffler sounds like a good idea to me. My middle muffler's long gone, shoulda asked if I could have it. Hmm, I'll see what they got. But smaller muffler definitely sounds good.
To tell you the truth I didn't even think of what you were saying till I read the whole thing over. (About the deep and giving it some ) :P
Alright, thank you.

Geh just noticed headers too, that's what's making it. Oh well. I'll go figure it all out tomorrow.

If you go with a smaller muffler you can always ad another resonator/ hotdog in further up the pipe for about $80. But if you get a large rear muffler you can't make it any louder because if u remove the middle resonator/ muffler it will be raspy and drone more.

A friend and I have a similar setup, both have a hotdog installed as a middle resonator, they both sound good Deep and snarly....
But there is huge difference, I have a long straight through, and its very quiet.. still sounds good, just quiet.. The other has a shorter straight thru - and is very loud, and still sounds good, deafening in a tunnel with the widow down...Both Lukey Rears....Mine is a LR 2779 IIRC, the other I dont know.... The long one is for Grandpa-ish/Stock minded person, who what a bit of a thrill... The short is a bit Yee-Hah - Look at me... I like them Both...

Alright, I'm probably going to end up doing that hot dog reso in the middle. My muffler would probably be that quiet one, since it's pretty long.
I mean the whole idea of what I'm figuring out is how to add pressure, which a resonator will do (somewhat). A muffler change would be the next best but we both love it; makes the car look full with two outlets.
But alright, thank yous.
