View Full Version : Brake Pad/Disc Compatibility

So, I have a 1997 TF Magna Executive, Non-ABS.

I have a set of front ventilated discs and brake pads, brand new, for a 1997 KF Verada Ei which I presume would have ABS.

According to ACDelco, the rotors should be compatible between cars. Both have a front disc part number of ACDR425. The brake pads may not be according to Bosch, but as the rotors make up the bulk of the cost, i'm not overly worried about having to buy another set of brake pads. However if i'm incorrect and the pads can also be used, I certainly wouldn't complain.

So, provided I have the right sets of parts here, what's involved in changing the brake rotors and pads on a 1997 TF Magna Executive? I know typically you remove the wheel, remove two bolts from the rear of the caliper, lift the caliper out of the way and the rotor should come off from there. Snap out the old set of brake pads and snap in a new set while the caliper is off. However I want to make sure i'm not going to hit any Mitsubishi/Magna specific differences or anything special I need to know before I dive in there.

In addition, I will be purchasing tools to do this job so if anyone could provide me with details of whether the bolts are Hex/Allen Key or a standard Socket size bolt head (to ensure i'm purchasing the right tools the first time), that would be excellent.

Cheers.

ALL Magna's from the V6 version of the second gen (Magna and Verada) all the way through to the TW 2005 models have the same rotor and pad. The only exceptions are the AWD and the Ralliarts.

Forget these brake pad books, the front pads are the DB1203

Are the brake pads and discs even the same for the ABS twin piston setup on the 2nd gen?

Sorry, missed that one, rotors are the same, pads are the same as the ralliart and AWD models DB1223

So the rotors should be fine. Excellent. The pads for the TF Magna (Non-ABS) are DB1203, as you said.

The KF Verada (ABS) pads are listed as DB1223 for the Verada KF 3.0L and DB1203 for the Verada KF 3.5L... which I presume is a typo, because the Verada came with the 3.5L standard.

But i've checked the calipers that the pads are suited for (I have those too) and they're definitely single piston.

In any case, i'm sticking with your advice on this one, Mal. Just don't want to take the wheel off, caliper off and find out the parts are wrong - had it happen too many times already so playing it extra-safe this time. lol

How about the bolts holding the caliper on? Are they Hex/Allen key or just a standard socket head? Will be getting a socket set shortly but have been considering whether to pick up a set of Allen keys as well.
