It occurred to me today that when I start my car and my seatbelt isn't on, the seatbelt light in the dash comes on for a couple seconds then just turns off. I'm guessing that's probably just part of the startup instrument check which made me think... is my seatbelt sensor broken? Is there meant to be a light which tells you when the driver's seatbelt isn't plugged in?

It took me this long to realise because obviously I always drive with my seatbelt on, no exceptions, but sometimes I do start the ignition and then put my seatbelt on before I go, and that's how I noticed this.

its not broken, its just telling you to put your seatbelt on. then it turns off after about 5 seconds.

Ah weird, it's so tiny I barely noticed it. I expected it should stay on as a warning while driving.

Fair enough, it's normal, questioned answered!

My TJ does the same thing. I don't think there is a sensor in the seats. The light comes on regardless

Mits cost-cutting, Magna/Verada does not have belt sensors.

it's just a warning light to let you know to put your seatbelt on.. like Dean says, it's Mitsu being tight asses and stuck in the mid 90's..
