Hi guys,

Sorry for the noob question, but I keep reading how people upgrade to 380 brakes on their 3rd gen.
Can someone tell me how they differ to the 3 gen brakes (ie, their specifications, diameter, etc)

Thanks

Bigger rotors - 380 are 294mm, 3rd gen Magna (non-AWD/Ralliart) are 276mm
380 calipers are twin piston, Magna single piston
380 calipers/pads are significantly larger than Magna calipers/pads

For performance driving, Magnas definitely benefit from the upgrade.

As Red says.

I think the 380 front rotors are also a couple of mm thicker than Magna rotors.

So the brakes of the 380 are the same as the AWD Magna and Raliart Magna?

And, do the calipers/carriers from the 294mm brakes bolt onto cars with 276mm brakes?

Its a direct swap.

The 380 and AWD caliper are very similar. The 380 runs a 2mm wider rotor.

The 380 and AWD/Ralliarts have twin piston calipers with 294mm rotors, but the 380 rotors are thicker, the 380 calipers are larger, and the 380 pads are larger (greater surface area). So the 380 brakes are better than the Ralliart/AWD brakes.

Not sure exactly what you're asking - if you're asking if you can use the twin piston calipers with 276mm rotors, the answer is no.

380 front brakes are a direct bolt on to 3rd gen Magnas, but you need to use the 380 brake line from the caliper to the hub.

Thanks guys.

Red Valdez, I meant when going from 276mm brakes to 294mm brakes, the calipers/carriers are changed, do they bolt onto the knuckle of the 276mm equiped cars, or is a knuckle change necessary?

380 Caliper Left, AWD (Ralliart) Caliper Right.

Wow there really is a difference!
Would the 380 calipers fit in the stock 16" Verada wheels?

4mm wider im pretty sure and pads are much larger.

I did this upgrade on my magna and they were worth every cent!

Hi guys,

Can someone tell me how much of a difference there is between these 2 brake setups?
Assuming the 276mm uses the twin piston calipers already, would there be a big advantage it going up in size, or would it be better to spend the money on a better 276mm rotor and pads?

276mm use single piston calipers and 294mm use twin piston calipers (Both AWD/Ralliart and 380) and the difference is like night and day on the road.

Your best bet would be to get a 380 front brake upgrade from Madmagna for around $550.

I already have the twin piston calipers on the 276mm rotors.
So, wondering if the upgrade is worth the money?

PS. Can the 294mm rotors fit under 15" wheels?

What? Really? Im surprised its compatible as the twin piston setup uses a thicker rotor.

TS V6 Caliper was twin? maybe someone fitted them?

sounds more like the RPW kit that they sell that is compatible with the smaller rotor

FYI, the USA Diamante came spec came with the 276 rotors and twin piston calipers from factory. There have been some in Aussie cars before.

Second Gen calipers do not fit the thrid gen

RPW have sold many sets of twin piston sets with the 276mm rotors, these were their "brake upgrade" at one stage for about $1200 originally

You can not use the larger rotors with your calipers, you will also need min of 16" and even some 16" will not fit over the set up

Sorry guys I should have mentioned the brakes are not on a Magna, rather a Lancer with Evo III brakes, which I am trying to decide whether the 294mm (Evo IV setup) is worth the money.

Madmagna, I have heard that there are "some" 15" wheels which will accommodate the 294m rotors/calipers.

Yes and No..

My GTV 17s JUST fit the 380 brakes behind them.

Some will, like 380 steelies obviously do.

Evo IV is identical to Ralliart afaik.

380 brakes are better, but you have more pad/rotor choice with the Ralliart/Evo IVs.

Evo III calipers are the same as the second twin pot calipers from memory As I was gonna fit them to my 1st gen before it died

I can confirm that the KJ2 Ei 16's will fit over the 380 calipers.

Or can tell me if the tie rod connects to it from the top or the bottom?

the KF Xi 16" Rims also fit very well with the 380 setup

its well worth the change over too, I just drove a mate KJ Wagon and it felt like it wasnt stopping at all with the stock brakes
