Sounds pretty good. I would snatch that up for that price with those k's. Old man driver always helps. Keep it serviced well and you will have a trouble free car for a very long time.

haha...

Keep in mind this is still a 10 year old car. As long as it has been properly serviced everything should be in good condition. That alone is not a good enough reason to have a look over the car because lets face it, rubbers and seals do crack over time still, whether it has low KMs or not, there are still lemons out there! :P

I have inspected the car the best that i can. will be taking it to my mec to pop it on the hoist and go through it piece by piece.

First car i have owned without 200k+ on it and i want it to stay nice

Just mke sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb. I can't imagine much failing but who knows what kind of hell it could have gone through.

The other thing to keep in mind is that many parts need replacing with age. If it's on it's original tyres, I'd replace them, as tyres have a useful life of around 4-5 years. I would also be doing the major service if not already done, as it's recommended at 100,000km or 5 years.

$6,800 isn't a bargain basement price for a TJ - there's a fair few VR-Xs floating around for that price, albeit with significantly higher kms. Given the age and condition though, I think it's a reasonable price.

The 4 speed magna make a great cruiser.....
Get a 5 speed if you are looking for any performance out of the girl.....

Is said it had a 5.5 auto. what dose that mean?
I knowtised that the major service hadnt been done just the standard 15 30 and 45K
also i'm only using it as a family car. so not looking for performance. just some town driving and a few trips to sydney.

I brought it for $6500 pick it up on Friday.

My TJ was a low km car but 10 years of age after about 3 months of normal driving and I had to replace a few gaskets, o rings and seals but no biggie, around $700 or so. The biggest surprise came in the form of rusted out fuel and brake lines. Be sure to check the lines under the car (you cant miss them) and make sure there not rusted. That excercise to replace all lines cost another $650!

Also recommend a full trans service, should cost around $250 or so to do. I dont recommend a DIY as you need a pump to flush out the trans fluid from the torque converter, let the specialists do that. Oh and probably cam belt due to age of vehicle. Other than that sounds great.

But she's all sweet now and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Not sure about the garaging. I know it came from forbes so hopefully no rust anywhere.

The rusted fuel and brake lines was not a normal occurance it was a factory defect with the lines used in the TJ series 1 models. Most got repaired under that recall thing, but some didn't. My car is rust free everywhere it was jsut the lines that corroded.

May have been garaged as the paint work seems like new. and there is no fading with appolstry (sorry wrong spelling) . Old man driver. passenger seat hardly sat in and back seat never sat in.
Wont stay like this for long as i have 2 kids to go in the back. Thinking of pulling the seats out and putting a drop sheet down and re bolting the seats down to keep it this nice LOL.
Can't wait to get in on Friday.

Haha whoa that's a bit far. Back on topic sorry for hijacking the thread. I would put seat covers on all your seats if I were you. Preserves a bit of resale value

Get a mach to look at the timing belt, Both my magnas i have had, had under 60,000kms and i did a timing belt on both of them just to be sure, Really it should be replaced but if you have no money left over from the sale and it looks to be perfect condition it can be left a few months while you save.

Sorry, i missed a page and didn't know this had been mensioned.. anyhoo. Low km magnas are good!

I do all mechanical work myself unless something has to be pressed out. then i usually borrow the mech's press down the road. it seems that whenever i get a mech to do the work for me something goes wrong. asked a guy to replace the servo seals in my xr8 falcon. drove good for 2 days then spat the servo out and dumped all my oil and F****d my auto. so now i do it all myself. safer that way. im not usually in a rush to do it and it gets done right first time.

Spent 5 years pit crewing for Sainty Top fuel team so basic mech work is a walk in the park

Looks tidy.
Did you get log books with it? If so, check if and when the cam belt has been changed.
The belt should be changed at 90,000 km or 5 years. Most older drivers read this as meaning 90,000 km even if it takes 20 years to get there! lol Same for coolant and trans fluid changes. Brake fluid as well.
Worth a look. Don't want to snap a brittle 10 year old belt and ruin a good motor, do we? lol

Full fluids are the first on my list as i look through the service history and it seems hey followed the kms and not the time. by the service manual was last serviced early 2008 had 30000kms on it then. all fluids look good and clean and smell like new but i dont trust dealers. At least its under warranty
then once thats done timing belt (Tentioner tool should have arrived by then). At least there arnt to many leaks. found that the oil filler cap needs a new seal and there seems to be the tinyest leak on the rear bank near the water hoses to the heater core. nohing major hust a small weap. probebly rocker cover.
