Hi fellas,

I am sure I saw somewhere that later model Lancer wheels 18" will
be a straight fit onto my KJ2 Verada??

As my insurance company need me to stick to 7" wide maximum.

Does anyone know if this is true?? What years fit etc?? Are there any
mods at all I need to undertake??

Thanks Pete

Why does your insurance company need you to stick with 7 inches wide??????

The CJ VRX Lancer wheels fit but from what I read the standard tires, even though are fine size wise, will not pass a roadworthy due to the load index being lower than necessary

Find a set without tyres and put better ones on! Good to see you did your research first.

There's a couple of KJ Verada's that have the CJ VRX wheels fitted already, Hojo is one of them. Have a bit of a search around and you should find some photos. And yes Spetz is correct, there's no required modification for the wheels to fit, only a change in tyres for roadworthy.

I believe some earlier base-spec (ie not Evo) Lancers used a 4 stud pattern, not 5? So not all Lancer wheels will fit.

As said though, a set of the 18" Lancer VR-X/Ralliart wheels you're referring to will fit fine with a new set of tyres.

Thanks guys, but whats with the tyres. Are you saying that the ones on the Lancer will not cope with the weight load of the Verada??

They're less than the factory load rating of Magnas, which technically makes them illegal (unroadworthy) to use.

all cj lancers are 5 stud so nothing to be worried about there

Yep, I've just bought CJ Lancer VR-X rims (Lugo's actually) for my KJ2. Lancer tires are not suitable for our Veradas as the load rating is too low, best tire for the job for our cars imo (I believe this is what everyone else uses as well) is 235/40/R18.

I wouldn't use 235/40s - 235s is too narrow for a 7" wide rim imo. Plenty of people run it, but it wouldn't be my first pick. I'd be leaning towards 225/45s.

I run 235/40s on my rims, but that's because they're 8" wide.

Okay, so I've got the CJ Lancer VRX rims on my car. I've got 235/40R18 profile tyres and there are two ideal profiles, this and the 225/45R18's which are a lot more expensive and a little harder to find in the correct load rating (most are a little lower than recommended).

I was also told that I should also look in to the load ratings for the rims themselves. And from my research it should be okay since the CJ Ralliart's are using the same rims and its kerb weight is 40kg heavier than my KJ2 'Rada.

Fixed for you ;)

This is what I think too- but the reason why I went with a 235 profile is coz it was cheaper, like a lot cheaper. When I was searching for tyres all and I asked if the 235 profile was too wide for the rims and they all told me it'll be fine. 15,000km later and a few rotations and they're still fine- even with my occasional spirited drives.

Likewise, the 235's I have fitted have no problems whatsoever on the 7" wide rim. There are variances in the actual width between any two model tyres I've been told which can have an effect, as for example one brand 235 tyre might actually be 232 while the next is 238, but as a rule of thumb I think we can safely say 235's are fine on the CJ wheels.
