View Full Version : Squealing on Full Lock
Hey guys,
Hoping someone more technical minded might be able to help me out, of late our TR has started making a really prominent squealing noise when you turn to full lock left or right. To me it seems as if the power steering pump is rubbing on something internally or something, but it's not really my department hence asking the question. You can turn to 99% of lock either way and it's fine, it's not until you hit the end of steering travel completely that it starts to squeal, be it forwards or reverse.
Any insight would be appreciated before I book it into the mechanics for a look over.
Cheers,
Lugo.

could be low power steering fluid or the belts arent very tight.
could be the pump itself is dying

yeah first thing i'd be checking is see if the belt is loose / worn, this happened on an old TR I had, I just replaced the belt
I've checked the fluid, it's just over half full on the marker so I assume that isn't causing the issue. I'll have to have a look at the belt in daylight, probably due for replacement anyway. Cheers.

Things like squeals usually require a little trial and error. Im putting money on it being the belt, start by inspecting/replacing your belt and if the problem persists look into getting a mechanic/yourself to check out the steering rack, steering pump, joints, .etc ,eliminate possibilities one after another and usually you'll come up with a solution. ^_^

i know others have mentioned similar so no haters on this post but I'd be inclined to check the power steering pump, and the belt, and power steering hose/s, steering rack. most times when there's squealing on full lock its the power steering pump on the way out, or there's a leak in the hose, or the belt needs tightening or replacing..pretty common...if not that, do a decent check on the inside of the tyres for rubbing maybe?, and while ya down on the ground or near so, rip the wheel off and check things like brakes, ball joints, tie rod ends etc, can't hurt to check them right? but all in all check power steering first pump/belt/hose/s steering rack. if still no luck, local mechanic. or just replace the stuff yourself and see how it goes
