Hi guys,

Which would handle better, a GTV, VRX, Sports (any car which comes with the factory sports suspension and rear swaybar) or a normal 3rd gen with just a Whiteline rear swaybar installed?

All things being equal, except the 2 following scenarios:
1. Both run same tire/wheel size
2. The 17" tire/wheel size of the Sports variants, and the 16" tire/wheel package of the normal car + whiteline swaybar.

Thanks

IMO, front suspension helps magna's a lot, but for track times I reckon the modded Exec would have the Rada for the weight advantage. But for me to guess an answer to your question, technically it would be the sports, being the lightest with sports suspension, but the exception to the rule would be the VRX LE, with Koni's.... So in order VRX LE, then Sports, then VRX then Modded Magna, then Rada.
Long live the Ralliart!!!!

Oh, and if 'Handling' includes gearboxes, for maintaining maximun Grip/accelaration control out of a corner, most execs were 4 speed auto's, which would get nailed on a track, most notably at accelaration from 45 - 80 kmph...

Sorry guys I am only interested in a Verada and preferably the GTV, but wondering if I cannot find one for whatever reason, would an Xi with a whiteline swaybar be just as good?

Both would be KJ series 2

Are you going to lower it?

Any of the Rada with well modified suspension will have an advantage of the normal release cars you mentioned, so your choice IMO, should be based on trim level and body/interior condition, repairing seats and paint, would quickly prove more expensive than the 1000-1200 you'd need to set up an after market suspension package.

Yes my main decisive factor will be condition, hence even though the GTV is the preferred trim level I realize I may have to make compromises.

I do not plan to lower it. Maybe if I come across a cheap set of springs someone is selling etc I would consider it.

IIRC, its easier to fit a better rear sway bay from whiteline, if the car doesnt have mounted in the first place.
Looking forward to seeing you new acquisition, when it comes.

Honestly..

The struts in the vehicle may already be on their way, so replacing the shocks/springs with something decent when the time comes would help immensely when it comes to handling.

Having been in muzza_oz's Verada with the Whiteline Rear Sway Bar & my GTV with the standard swaybar, they are MILES apart. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade.

why specifically a 'rada? Why not a magna with all the boxes ticked?

Mine handles like an absolute dream with upgraded suspension, anti lift kit, front and rear sway bars, strut brace

as well as leather etc :) Tis nice!

but its manual which probably wouldnt suit you

*cough* and its for sale *cough*

Until the TL/TW the standard fit rear sway bar is too small. Hence the previous post comparing a car with a standaed bar and one with the aftermarket Whiteline one.
A GTVI will have a standard rear bar, it is dead easy to swap over to the stiffer Whiteline one. However watch out for cracks occuring around the sway bar pivot mounts on hte rear subframe.
Handling difference bwtween the standard TJII bar and the thicker one is quite significant. Apart from less body roll when cornering you will find that there is much less front tyre shoulder wear. Turn-in / chuckability is much improved.

Got any pics of the anti lift kit? I don't think they make them anymore

Really? Disappointed to hear that if its true, I was after all-round upgrades on my magna and that was on the list!

I'm going to go ahead and say an exec with a rear swaybar tacked on, low springs, good rubber, 5speed manual - would be the best bang for buck. But in the wet I would go an AWD despite the extra weight :)

Shoot, I won't be buying until later this year, earliest around October.

Norby, I just want the options the Verada has, plus the looks are much better and a bit more exclusivity (yes I know this sounds ridiculous on such a cheap car).

I won't be buying a car with over 150K km on it, preferably less but it depends on their cost. Ideally though I do not want to spend money on it swapping shocks etc, I just want cheap, comfortable motoring but I would like it to be fun if needed.

Does the whiteline rear bar make the ride much stiffer? Or make any noises?

I have my rear bar set to medium and it does make the ride a little more harsh over speed bumps, but it still feels softer than the front suspension when sitting in the drivers seat (rear seat passenger will notice more). As for noise I couldn't tell the difference.

Is it harsh enough to say that it is no longer a luxurious ride?
Or just a small difference, only noticeable if paying attention?

It is only really noticeable on the larger bumps like speed bumps. Also if both wheels go over the bump at the same time then there will be no difference, its only if you like to put the left hand wheels in the gutter when going over speed bumps. And yes it is only really noticeable if you are paying attention to it, on most roads it would be hard to tell the difference.
