Hey guys,

today I pulled my headlights out of my car to put angel eyes in them (2 piece paras). I used my heat gun but didn't have much success opening them as I didn't want to damage them. Do I use the heat gun along the entire seal? Because today I was heating up bit by bit, and it wasn't really opening...

I haven't personally done it but ideally you'd want to "soak" the glue area with heat. Don't hold the heatgun too close because you might melt the plastic (not sure on the melting point of the plastic used, but it IS plastic) once the glue starts seperating, pry it open with a flat screw driver. do yours have metal clips on them at all? (I know my standard exec ones did, dunno bout the paras)

Yeah, they had metal clips which I took off, though. I didn't melt the plastic and I didn't really want to force it too much so I put it all back together and sealed it up.

I use a hairdryer rather than a heat gun as unless you are slightly retarded then you will have a hard time melting the housing with a hairdryer. Just keep at it until it startes to prise open and melt the glue as you go...

So don't heat the entire seal? Because I tried to prise it open as I went but there was so much glue it just wasn't opening.

I used a heat gun and kept moving along the entire seal. Used a screw driver to begin prying them apart. As it begins to separate, have a stanley knife ready to cut any seal as it spreads.

When working with a heat gun, slow and steady wins the race.

Alright thanks guys. I'll see how I go with this! I might invest in a separate pair of lights and do it to those so I don't stuff up my factory ones.

Cheers.

PLastic melta at around 150C i think.... I use a heatgun at work alot to heat up glue on ABS edging. As long as you dont hold it directly on the plastic but about 1ft away and keep a slow swaying motion you should be fine. If you see it starting to go shiny, pull away as soon as you can as that means its starting to melt.

be careful with the screw driver too not to indent the plastic

That's always a good idea. When I have positive money to my name again I'm going to buy a tail light set so I can practice retrofitting LED rear lights. Don't wanna ball up my good TH tails, they're rare as hens teeth :P
