I have a S1 380 with no traction control.
Anyone know if it is possible to add it (i did a search and didnt find anything about it)
The only difference i can see in the workshop manual is the "ABS ECU"
The part number for mine is MN116642
I looked at 3 other 380s (Series 3 though) with traction control and they have MN116644.
Would it be a case of swapping out my ABS ecu with a TCL one OR is there other programming in the ECU or something?
The wiring/connector for the TCL switch is there.

Ask the dealer for a copy of the installation manual....?

Yeah, asking a dealer tomorrow but i doubt it would be something they would know about

Do you have traction problems or something??
Seriously when I want to launch faster I turn mine off ...... with the blower it drops power on wheelspin & bogs the car. Gets going a lot quicker with a bit of peddle control & no TCL.

you would be better spending the cash on a limited slop diff?

nothing like that. just would be handy in the wet thats all.

I have one but you'll be looking between $4-5K for a custom diff & it won't be an off the shelf thing, lots of chasing around for parts & people with the know how .....

Maybe use less throttle on take off in the wet ;)

I thought TCL was standard across the range

Yeah, just would be cool to have it.
This idea will probably be chucked in the too hard basket.
At the moment its a stock 380 so there is no real need for an LSD... yet
Traction Control was not standard on S1
(S1 DB base cheap pov pack model)

If your 380 is pretty stock invest in some good rubber & you won't have wheelspin in the wet!

Not worth spending your money on - it only helps you get off the line and you can achieve the same thing by backing off the throttle in a car without TCL. Stability control, well that is another thing and would be worthwhile if it was available.

Is it a manual or an auto?
The traction control is ****house on the manual, I'm guessing because it was designed around the auto box and not adapted to the manual.
A couple of other manual owners on the forum have also said they hate it, whereas the auto owners generally think it's quite good.
If you have a manual (small chance I guess), don't go near it.

I HATE it... I turn the damn thing off all the time if I need to get out in to traffic quick... it has cought me out a couple of times... Pulling out into an intersection, nail it... chirp, spin, chirp.. DEAD.. foot to the floor but nothing... POS PIECE a crap!

Mine's a 2006 series 1 base model "Limited Edition" (what became ES in series 2), and does not have TCL.

3 demerit points in most states for breaking traction.

The TCL is dodgy at best, you are better as previously mentioned to put some good quality rubber on. I got some Eagle F1 GSD3's and it hardly breaks traction now, the TCL light very rarely comes on now as the tyres aren't letting go. If I want to get upto speed quick I turn it off, as I can control the throttle better than it can. The TCL has also scared me a couple of times with the old tyres (continentals) I had and I don't trust it. Goodyear has a special on at the moment I think, buy 3 get one free...

my TCL was never that busy - i have some standard Michelin rubbers... even off the faster start of the traffic lights - im ser III. in wet its coming on - but i have to really push it hard so i think its ok...

I'm one of the manual drivers that flyboy refers to. I don't really 'hate' the TCL, it's just that I find it's almost useless, with stuff all difference at preventing wheelspin whether it's on or it's off. Any more than about 2/3 throttle at take off in first gear and its spin chirp spin chirp spin chirp all the way into second gear, and then more of the same in second, doesn't mattter if TCL is on or off. I know it's working coz the TCL light flashes like crazy. So I just leave it on anyway to prevent the annoying "TCL off" dash light. (and I have reasonably decent rubber, Bridgestone Potenza Adrenalin R001 less than half worn)

I only just got my 380 so i didnt really test it out... its got pretty good tyres and takes a bit of effort to break traction.
The other 380 i drove was ridiculous (was a standard Platinum with 17"s), slightly hard takeoff and instant wheelspin/TCL.
Anyway tyres/LSD doesn't help with info on fitting TCL
