I own a 99 TH and I'm wondering if there is any way to check the error codes without buying anything or taking to a mechanic/dealer?
Thanks in advance.

I remember reading that if you ground a particular wire in the diag connector in the driver footwell, the engine light will flash to give you a code. Can't remember what gen or models this covers though sorry.
I think if you take it to a mits place or a mechanic they'll do it for free (possibly, I would not charge. simply plug and check, but alas)

I just tried this on a 99 TH Magna.
Ignition off, Earth out pin 1 on the diagnostics connector, ignition on and the engine light will flash up the codes.
Long flashes indicate tens and short flashed indicate units, so two long and one short woud be 21.
I found some useful stuff using Google
