Hi all, just wondering if anyone knows much about central locking kits...bought a cheap one from autobarn for my tp, got it all installed ( finally ) but in order to lock all 4 doors, it has to be done from passenger side, just wondering if this is normal, or would it be easier to scrap it and go for a remote central locking kit ?:hmm: 4 door remote kit about $30, or $50 for 4 door plus boot
cheers

the master solinoid is on the wrong door if that is happening, also all i would say is good luck fitting the boot relise solinoid dosent fit 2 well.

Is the kit American? Did you follow the directions to the letter? Usually, the master solenoid has more wires than the rest.
If you put that one on the passenger side, then this is why.
Remote kits are cheap enough. I have put in a couple on previous cars.
They work well enough.

ok well am thinking it is an american kit, the packing disappeared in the shed somewhere. the boot not really worried about as i'll have to be doing something different with that due to the weight of the spoiler it no longer opens properly. extra spring inside each stock spring try to tension them a bit more or something. or maybe motorized, don't know yet
as with the actuators, if i recall when putting them in the 2 fronts both have same amount of wires, 4, and there was no real indication of which one went which side, and the 2 back door actuators have only 2 wires.
have swapped the 2 fronts around and still has not changed a thing, can unlock all 4 from driver side, but only lock them all at once from the left. thinking i might just have to put up with it, or spend another 30 odd for a new kit. how are the remote ones working ? any problems with distance or battery problems ?

Not really, although I have not installed one in a Magna before. Every magna I have owned has had remotes from factory.
I have a different locking system in my Verada currently. But it is proximity based so it has no key. Naturally, it is more expensive than $30 (it works the same as the Mercedes Keyless Go system)
But the remotes for the cheap systems are easy to get anyway.

Sweet, thanks, will have a look around, don't mind spending the money, the more efficient the better, swapped them back unplugged it all plugged it in again, not a lick of difference, so time to shop for something better, regardless of price, just as long as it locks and unlocks without any hassles. So you're setup is it push start button that supplements the standard ignition switch or just the keyless entry still using the key to start ?

im not sure how you system works but the stock relays have two trigger wires. one you ground to lock, the other you ground to unlock. if you system works like this its possible one of the wires in the drivers side isnt connected properly or something. maybe do a continuity check from the door plug back to the relay on all of the wires. that should tell you whats going on. otherwise there is no reason why it shouldn't work....

Shaun92 is correct if the kit has only one master and three slaves. If you bought a kit with two master then the one in the drivers door is a dud.
