Hi guys,

Im about to take my 2002 TJ Sports to body shop very soon to have a genuine second hand vrx body kit fitted.
I just have a couple of urgent questions im hoping you guys could maybe answer for me.

My car has a tyre size of 235/40, rims are 18in x 7.5in +38 offset & has king lows front & rear, so my questions are:

1) On the Rear wheel arch flares can I use the original clips without the tyre hitting it? (a trial fitting with someone in the back looked like it would be fine but just wanted to be sure).

2) On the Front flares, do you think just to be sure Its better to trim the inner top part, use bonding glue & use the 2 original screws on the bottom? (I dont mind if I have to), once again I have trail fitted them & they seemed fine as well but I forgot to turn full lock to test:mad:

3) Will the vrx Rear bar & side skirts screw/clip straight on without any mods?

4) Do I need to know anything else before fitting?

5) These 2 brackets are from the flares but where do they go?

Sorry for the urgency but the cars going in next week & want to avoid hasses if possible so your advice would be majorly appreciated:happy:

Cheers guys,

Ross

Rear should have no worries, neither should front unless your on superlows or something. Mine care off atm on 225s and s lows.. I'll be putting them back on with panel beaters trim tape.

Thanks for the replay mate, yeah lucky I got lows at least got better chance of clearing flares.

Does any one else have this exact set up?

I have Lows front and rear, 18x8 rims, 235/40 tyres.

The tyres scraped like buggery on the front flares. I didn't even bother attempting on the rear. Currently with a camber kit installed and the guards rolled, they still scrub.

It's hit and miss - some people have clearance problems, some don't.

I have 235 +35 offset with ralliart flares, i had to cut to clear them on king lows, but they still are fine with stock brackets on the front, Rear i just pissed them off and glued the flare on.

Mmmmm ok... food for thought. looks like it might be a guessing game but i'll definitely have to trim & glue the fronts to be safe, on the rear tomorrow i'm guna test it with just the clips on, reverse up a drive way gutter & throw some people in the boot & rear seat to really git the tyre right up in there!

Thanks alot dudes for posting back i'll have to see how I go.

Hope to speak soon:happy:

The fronts will be fine, your springs shouldn't compress that much and the way the fronts mount on you just trim them, no glue needed because the screws still hold it.

cool so does that mean I can get away with not using the top centre bracket(asuming there is one because im missing some fittings I think) & trim say, 5-6 inches off the top section?

My ralliart ones only have a screw or 2 holding them on at the top but even that is overkill. take them out if u wish and put a spot of glue in. Otherwise just trim around what is holding it there already.

My fronts scraped like buggery on a mildly bumpy Queensland road :( It was undriveable...

Wierd my +35 are fine with a small trim. Is your car auto? May effect the weight. Also the rubbing will go away. I had a slight problem on my front passenger wheel with ego in the car on the weekend as he ate all the curry in his village back home in India. By the way back it had scrubbed away the flare so it fit :D

keep in mind hayden the ralliart and vrx flares are different as well so that will play a part in whether or not they scrub

Yeah mine's auto. Mine are +38 as well. Springs and shocks were only around 25,000km old when I had the bigger wheels originally put on, so it's not like they were rooted. I only drove the car a couple of kms with the front flares on, but it was just me in the car, and the passenger side was scrubbing often.

From what I've read on AMC though, I am certainly one of the more unfortunate members with larger wheels. My advice to anyone is that my experience is probably a worst-case scenario, as there's plenty of other members who haven't had problems.

True guys, Its odd how the passenger side scrubs more then drivers side in our cars

Why even bother with those flares? Leave them off I say. It'll look every bit as good. If you want the extra width that those "flares" provide I'd recommend rolling the guards instead. No scrubbing and you'll have a bit more space for future wider wheels :D Win-win solution.

Red Valdez you unlucky bugger, does seem a mistery why yours scrape so easily:think: has mentioned if you still want em on I guess the only way is trim & glue ay..

Hayden, on mine re springs not compressing enough to hit flare, you seem to be correct cause theres still a massive gap between flare n wheel, even when testing up on gutter to compress suspension,
Im still guna trim though.

By the way I gave the rear a good slam down today up on gutter again with person in boot n rear seat & it was fine, the clips were still 10mm away from top side of tyre! maybe cause they're 7.5in rather then 8in mite partly help but who knows, cheers again guys:happy:
