Hi all, since I picked up my 96 TE Magna late last year there's been a whistling noise coming from both the driver's and passenger's side windows. I've done a bit of searching around the forums and some Google searching too but everyone's answer seems to be that its the side mirrors making the noise.

I'm confident that its not the mirrors because once the windows are wound up just that slight bit more the whistling stops. Also when I take the car though the car wash the two spots in particular leak water. It can be hard to get it in this sweet spot sometimes, especially when it starts coming from the passengers window whilst on the highway.

Now my question is, can the rubber door seals perhaps be rejuvenated to perhaps plug the gap.
And if so whats the best solution? I've read tyre shine, Vaseline, boot polish, WD-40, silicone spray, Armour All, etc...

Wind your window down while driving and hover your finger between the mirror and the delta panel of your door.. the whistling will magically stop. its just turbulence, a failed design flaw by Mitsubishi.

As for the water leak, take the delta cover off and tighten the screws behind it, this may resolve some of the leak/whistling.

Your seals may not be shot, it may be a case of adjusting the door glass.. this is done via a few nuts at the bottom of the window operator inside the door skin.

The door latches might have slipped also. I had to adjust both the window and the latches to stop the whistling.

not much you can really do, as woob said, it's pretty much just a design flaw.

I repaired my unc's tj, whistled/leaked badly but from the lhs rear window, attached to the window, inside the door, are little white guides/grips, as the window goes up, these grips pull the glass hard onto the rubber seal, they get brittle with age/heat, I've seen many broken, and there's generally heaps at the wreckers. Sorry I don't have a pic, they are white, 20mm wide and twice as high. At first glance they ok, but pull them off, 12mm socket, and you can see the fracture..

It might not be your trouble, but its free to look.

Forgot to add, there is two per door, and mark their angle with a texta before you remove them, they can be put back correctly, as they slip into a little guide...

Heres the little cleats, Marked with the '2', there another further along, and the guides, marked with the indicating lines.... (The bits of plastic could pass for a flush towel hanger)

The guides are less than $10 new. I replaced one recently. I have a spare for when the next one breaks.
