View Full Version : Whining (highpitch) noise at low speed
I know I know could be a number of things that cause this but I'm pretty sure this noise is from the transmission. This morning I heard it while in reverse. Not really audible over 60km/h otherwise. It's a petrol guzzler so no LPG. It's not very loud at all. I was just wondering whether this noise is normal. It's a 2005 GT with 70 000km & transmission oil has been changed regularly as far as I know.
Thanks!

Is this while turning at all? Mine whines a bit while turning but I think that's just the power steering pump.

not the electric fuel pump is it?
Definitely not power steering.
I can hear the fuel pump all the time when outside the car while it's idling. Is that normal?

i know of atleast 5 different 380's (40K, 60K, 70K, 200K and 240K) that have transmission whine , a tiny tiny bit of power steering whine and its easy to tell the fuel pump is running on all of them....
I think everything whines and is noisy in general.

you can hear the fuel pump all the time under idle? Like the fuel pump whining? Does it cut out when you put the foot down?

I hear the fuel pump kick in when I turn the key then the electronic high pitch whine while idling not that loud that it's concerning. Actually haven't tried to listen if it cuts out when I accelerate, too hard with tyre, wind noise.
Seems like a bit of transmission noise is normal. Maybe depends on trans fluid....? Mine would have Mitsu brand whatever that is...
What's normal in terms of f/pump noise?

When i fire mine up it has a whine sometimes, like it's pissed that i woke it up. I thought you meant you hear that noise as you are accelerating/cruising. Only reason i thought if it cuts out when you put it under load it could be a fuel pump issue/fuel filter blocking the pump so it has to work harder but it doesn't seem the case. When in doubt get it checked out is what i always say

The electric throttle bodies also make high pitched noise.
Ignition on (engine not running) and press the accelerator (if you want to hear it)
