Need fresh info, people who have done it or know if its possible. Swapping a 6g72 with a 6g74. yes i know the engines face opposite directions.

The 6G72 and 6G74 from the 3rd gen face the other way for the transplant to be possible into a 2nd gen.

Why not get a DOHC 6G72 from an NA GTO etc?

simply because dohc 6g72 = $5,000 and a 6g74 = $500. but if it is only possible with the 6g72 Dohc then i guess itll have to wait till i can get one. by facing the other way, do you mean that it is possible but the plenum will be at the front rather than the back? that would look bizarre, unless the plenum could be reversed. btw, blistering response time man! :D

i bet id have to weld up new extractors to fit the new shape, whilst i have the welder out probably doing new positions for the engine mounts.

it would be cheaper to buy a gen3 then the conversion costs of fitting a 6g74

Is the only difference between the SOHC and DOHC 6g72 the heads? If so then why not aim for a head swap

Because the heads probably dont line up with the block

The 6G74 was found on the Debonair with the engine and gearbox orientation to suit 2nd gens.

6G72 from GTO 1/2 cut wont cost you $5000 more like $1000 and in my opinion be the logical swap of choice however the above conversion from a Debonair 3.5lt 6G74 has been done before on a 2nd gen TR.
Do a search on here and you should be able to find a members ride thread that has info on it.
