I am in the market for a Sub and Amp and are wondering what your suggestion will be.

Considerations:
12" Subwoofer
Monoblock Amp
Not too expensive

Suggestions welcome.

I reckon you should look at getting this sub! Not too sure on an amp.. I'll look around and see what my mate used and get back to you!

I would suggest a response amp, with a sub of your choice. I run a Response amp powering 2x12" soundstreams.

As far as a enclosure is concerned it is impossible to say without the specs on the sub being known, as without the theile small parameters and the size of the box desired can a box be made.

Ask someone nicely who has BassBoxPro 6 and they can search the softwares database to see which speaker will perform the best in the enclosure size you desire.

The best way to shop for this is, Box size, then Sub, then Amp. Size alowable dictated the sub you can run, then a amp to power it.

It is pointless to go out and buy a sub to find that the ideal enclosure size is not a workable size. For example I decided on the size of my box, put these in as hard parameters, then called up my subs in the database, and then went through all the different box designs till I found the right one.

But hell what do I know *grins*

Thanks again for your help.

Which JL sub? Cause if you're gonna go with the 12W6V2, it'll set you back $959  ... not exactly fitting the "nothing to expensive" part of your original post!

Nope. The cheaper version. My brother works at a very large Car Audio shop so i am able to get things near cost....

my mate runs 2 kicker CVR's with a cadence mono-block (Z7000 or something, 700WRMS), and he tells me it stops quite a lot due to overheating :doubt:

Well after "playing around" with some additional Sub/Amp combinations i settled on this:

Audioline 600W Monoblock Amp
Alpine Type "S" in specially built enclosure

I did mass testing and i thought the JL Subs were too dear for the output they gave. Sure, the Alpine Sub is not as good as the JL "W" series subs but hell does the Alpine Sub pump out deep powerful bass. For Alpine it did impress me. The setup works impressivley connected via an Eclipse headunit (5v pre-outs). How long the sub lasts is another question!

But for my budget i am more than happy with what i got and well, that's all that matters!
