Hey guys,

A while back I grabbed a boot lid (and other goodies) from a ralliart Magna (this forum) for my TF.
I'm lazy and STILL haven't gotten a locksmith to replace the barrel/key (different design to my TF..couldn't swap em over:()

annywayy............. now my boot won't open by pressing the button (cable release).
SOMETIMES 1/10 if I open the boot (long stick and hatch:P) it will.

Is there any way of "tightening" the cable... when I watch the mechanism it seems like its not giving enough pull? Or any common gotchas?

Not being able to open my boot is a total drag, advice appreciated..

EDIT: Tried messing about with it... looks like I'll need a replacement, anyone recommend someplace cheap? (Now pick-a-part is gone:()

you will need to install the boot cable from a TJ. The are slightly different lengths.

Also, I have swapped out the key barrels myself in my car before (when I swapped all the computers immob and keys to KJ) And you are able to disasseble the locks. It is very tedious, and you may need to grind a lip on the TF one.

The cable length from the TF to the TW was the same, I sell heaps of these across the board.

There is no reason you can not bend the bracket a little to give your existing cable a little more pull, just bend a slight amount where the outer cable clips on and this should do the trick. The stretch is a sign however that your cable is not long away from busting though

Perhaps the boot lid catch is set up too tight when you swapped lids and the brackets on the cable are bending trying to open it?

Just a thought, worth a check anyhow.

Hmm, well I stand corrected. I have had issues with boot cables in the past being not long enough or too long. As you say, they can stretch I suppose.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll see if I can move the bracket a bit and I'll double check the catch : )

Since I have my damn licence back now, I'm in the middle of spiffing this thing up again!

Hate to hijack a thread, but its really along the same lines. But different.
Mine works, when its not hot.
If it's cold outside, or I just stop from driving and pull the switch/press the button on remote it'll release.
If it's been sitting in warm weather, it won't release.

Is this a sign of stretching, maybe it get's shorter when cold (doesn't seem like much sense to me)
Though I do notice the motor doesn't sound like its pulling all the way (length of time it takes to pull whatever distance seems shorter)

I've been told to get over it, but I hate when a feature doesn't work, it's like why have that feature if I'm not going to use it?
