hi all
went and bought myself some non-slip aftermarket pedal sports pads on easter sunday:facejump:
have looked on the internet that these are illegal or something:roflwtf:
can someone clear this up for me???:eeek:
Contact the main roads/transport dept in your state for the correct answer. At a guess I'd say that if they have Australian Standards Accreditation stamped on them they will be OK but all you'll probably find is "made in China"!....however you really need the "legal" answer.
If you get pulled up for a check, the first thing they will see after glancing to check if a key is in the ignition will be the pedals....and that may just be the excuse they need.

I have fully Metal Momo racing pedals in my Ralliart and they passed a Blue Slip fine. (Blue slip is a full car inspection)
However before that i was under the impression the pedals needed some sort of rubber on them.

mine have rubber but i read on other forums that you need them to screw on or something????
i doubt anyone will check them and if they do, i will just fix them or remove them

I've seen some dodgy looking ones that could get caught up with your shoes or each other. They had a clamp that went around the back of the pedal.

Yes look it up to be sure but i remember something about them having to be fixed by screws or somethign like that and not just strapped to the factory pedal. also has to have a grip surface.

There should be an Australian Standard for pedal pads. Does it have anything on the packaging that says "Meets Australian Standard AS-XXXX"

If you do get these, I would not recommend putting on a clutch pedal one if you have a manual as that will dig into the carpet and catch on it eventually due to the screws/bolts etc that are on the back of the pedal pad. The acelerater pedal ones are better designed that way as mine was cable tied and stuff on so don't really catch onto anything, but things can catch on such as shoe laces and your shoes around the back of the pedal pads and can be a safety issue. If you also have decent size feet, if you are not carefull you can knock more than 1 pedal at a time depending how wide those pedal pads are.
do note they can cause a few problems which is why they wouldn't be adr approved. The only way you can get adr approved ones is if its a full pedal you end up replacing.

If you cut and file the bolts off once the pedal cover is fitted you won't have any problems. I have had mine over 4 years with no problems

Same here, mine have been on for about 18 months with no problems. The bolts are reasonably soft and easy to cut & file.
