BumPity bump
the only difficult bit is to remove the shifter itself. to do that you need a small flat-head screw driver (.. or two) and fit it between the gap of the button and shifter (only the left and right of the shifter as that's where the button is clipped in). once you've removed the button, you'll need a 12mm deep socket to undo the nut that's holding the shifter on. after undoing the nut you can slide the shifter off. you'll then need to unhook the plug from its fastening point (that's on the shifter slider) and then there's four Phillips-head screws (two on each side), undo them and the surround should come right off

or a cut up credit card or thin butter knives, knives worked well for me as you can 'grab' the shifter button and pull it up.
and fit it between the gap of the button and shifter (only the left and right of the shifter as that's where the button is clipped in). once you've removed the button, you'll need a 12mm deep socket to undo the nut that's holding the shifter on. after undoing the nut you can slide the shifter off. you'll then need to unhook the plug from its fastening point (that's on the shifter slider) and then there's four Phillips-head screws (two on each side), undo them and the surround should come right off
or try as above, small screwdriver can still be too thick to slide down the sides of the button.
