Has anyone cut out the rear door trims in a 3rd Gen with power windows? if so where did you place them?

If I wanted to do this, I'd look a these (http://www.universalfuze.com/speaker_pods_with_tweeter.html), and mount a tweeter (because I'd get splits) up on the top of the door card facing toward the rear passengers, Something like the Hertz DSK 165 which are on sale for 170.00 @ your local awfulbarn... They have a decent angled tweeter pod that you can mount, and they also fit in a Verada tweeter pod FYI.

Of the dozen or so DNA have, here is a few to look at

Or there is Pge 66-67 here (http://dnaaudio.com.au/page_flipper/splrrp09/dna_catalogue_2009.html)

I have done this with the back doors in my TL . I had to be aware of peoples legs resting on the speakers and the size of the magnets going in to the door. There isn't much room in the doors and basically only one place that they can go . So Be careful and have fun.

Shoot, have you thought about what puting splits in your rear doors would do to your soundstage? I wouldn't want tweeters right behind my head at all, it'd make a mess of the whole setup IMO. I toyed with the idea of a bass extension kit in the rear doors of my verada as an alternative for subs in the boot (or to work with them), but could never work out a way in which to make it fit satisfactorily. I was going to use speaker grilles from the front door too to maintain a factory finish, but it just made clearance impossible.

Sorry lugo, theres no way I would mount rear door splits for the exact reasons you mentioned.
Try as you might, telling people you only need splits and woofer for great sound. Its often ignored. Sure they can look cool. But for awesome sound
Keep it simple 2.1...

As a show car, icon, sure, people look from the outside...
I do like where Robinvrx is headed tho, but its a lot of work if you've never done that kind of thing before....

If I was able to achieve somewhat close to what Robinvrx has done - how would the rear doors sound if they were fitted with small 8 to 10" subs? I'd seal up the doors and make it tight but not sure it'd be the right box for the subs. I know the box a sub goes in is important.

I just have a gas tank in the back and usually carry a fair bit of crap so I'm trying to find alternative solutions to loosing even more bootspace. I've even considered fitting a space saver tyre and using the extra space in the tyre weld to fit a flat lowline subbox instead.

The door is also the speaker grille, it's sits over the speaker only exposing the face.
With led ring in-between both.

It's was a bit of effort, making the doors was a huge job and even just moving the power windows motor slightly and making everything fit is a pain.

It's like trying to talk to a wall explaining that to some people. I've had a bunch of different setups in the Verada and VR-X, the KISS principle really is key if you want SQ. I'll admit I do have rear speakers which are amplified for the sake of passengers, but you'll never hear them from the front, it's only providing rear end fill. Unless of course I have to ditch the sub for travel storage space, then I change the setup the rears provide low end as well and you do hear them a little bit, but it's a make do situation for otherwise a complete lack of lows.

If you wanted to go to that extent, I'd be putting in a Bass Ext. Kit, 6.5" woofers. I used to use a Focal K2 Power 165KBE kit, which played surprisingly loud and low. They wouldn't rumble the cabin in regards to massaging your back, but the stereo had really clean and punchy bass with them. Would've been a whole lot better with a sealed box, I ran them free range off the parcel shelf. Old video of them just fitted here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOrXsO99EAM).

I remember your old sound system back in the day when I first joined up! Those where the days....

I can't seem to find many bass extension kits anymore. They seemed to only be produced by focal many years ago and now are EOL.

I have considered mounting on the parcel shelf a few times. I thought of fitting up 6x9's to only handle bass. Some of the 6x9's out there can pack some decent punch. However the general consus is that because they try to handle too many frequencies they do poor at all of them, which wouldn't concern me too much as I can use the bass cut-off frequency function on the amp or my head unit also has a function where you can setup that rear speakers only get sent bass.. I'm just wondering if they are even remotely comparable to a sub.

I was looking into maybe a way I could make a sealed box underneath the parcel shelf, but it'd be a heap of work and I'm not sure the actual box space/dimensions would be any good. Mounting it I could probably get away with drilling the odd screw hole here and there but ensuring the volume for the box is right could be difficult - as could creating a proper seal.
