Hey all, so picked some parts off of another tp, elite/sedan, naturally, same color as mine etc, but sadly before i could get back and get some more they took it away and crushed it ( :censored: insert foul language here ). but managed to get some gear, struts, power window stuff, auto shifter, door trims with controls, the back seat ( already installed into mine ), few other interior bits etc. The first thing i managed to see ( and gladly grab ) was the digital cluster.

NOW TO THE POINT OF TOPIC Am now wondering if its possible to swap the analog thats in mine for the digital i grabbed from the other sedan. would there be much to do, or any other parts i should ( if had the chance ) have grabbed in order to convert to digital? got spare cluster from the tn ( analog ) if anything goes wrong. ( the other sedan was upside down on top of a pile of cars, so was not easiest to get at let alone get parts from, was there one day, gone the next :facepalm so little time, so many parts to gather )
Any tips, advice, run-throughs, etc would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. have to take current one out anyways, replace some bulbs, but figured if its possible to swap it, than no need to worry about replacing the bulbs, when could just replace the whole unit....

cheers.
JJ

first thing you need is the gizmo that replace,s speedo cable

You Need
From the elite:
Digital Cluster
Pulse Generator (replaces speedo cable)
Electronic fuel sender unit
Temperature sender unit
A wiring diagram

PS if you are swapping a TP digital Cluster into a TP (Same as I'm Doing) the wiring will be much easier. Although there may be extra work involved if your car is AUtomatic - [wiring up the gear selector lights etc]

If you stuff it up and have to use the TN Analog spare, be warned that TN and TP Analog clusters have different coloured wiring.
Other than that, this is probably one of the best mods to make to a first gen.

good luck

thinking am good for the wiring diagram, picked up TN SERIES MAGNA SERVICE MANUAL some years ago when the old man had his tn on the road. should be able to find a diagram or 2 in it, one day, through out the ton of pages. so am up for another trip to the wreckers it seems. have the digi dash, and that's about it other than plenty of time, good eyesight, and a brother that also owned an elite. but local wreckers has ahh lets see 29 magna's currently, and 11 of those being 1990 down to 1986....almost every gen of magna available by the looks of it. and i know the one of the guys that works their which might be of help ( get him to get the parts out for me and keep them aside )

http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q2/VeNgEfUlBaStArD/digidash.jpg < this is not the one i actually have ( too dark down the shed at the moment to go hunting for it ) but its exactly the same < to be blunt and honest, for all i know, it might not even be the original from the wreck...could be from a sigma or cordia for all i really know. but my brothers wagon had the same when he was rolling in a mitsu ( since went on to a ford econovan, then a nissan maxima, now killed them and has a ford telstar and some ancient suzuki swift :facepalm) but back to the point. the one here in the picture, is indeed same as what i pulled out of the wreck along with control arms, ac thingo, electric window gear, trims etc. slowly converting it all or hoping too. but starting with the cluster, as mine currently has its monthly's. lights drop in and out, the clock half the time doesn't work, and when it does its never the right time. so yeah, rip and swap time.

Well, got downstairs earlier to grab the cluster, and could not find it where i thought i left it, so hunted around for an hour or so, and still nothing, came upstairs looked around, turned half the house upsidfe and inside out, but no luck, went back down to find the other parts from the wreck, and not by much surprise, could not find anything but the a/c thingo, door trims, and window parts, everything else has simply vanished, suspension, steering wheel ( had radio controls etc ), auto shifter, headlights, back light clusters, even the stock radio, so yeah am a bit p***ed off at the moment.

Have a thought on who would/may have taken it all, but will leave that for cops to sort, as its obvious have had a visitor or 2 or more over the last few nights, and they've helped themselves to the spare parts, also some of the holden parts and vw parts are missing of my brothers( hub caps, emblems mirrors etc ). so next visitors are going to be the boys in blue, as for the dash swap etc, well if all else fails, free parts day at the wreckers on sunday, $55 entry walk out with how ever much i can carry providing is only 3 of each item. but hopefully the police will get my gear back before then. or ill use the original, and just change too led bulbs, change the color sheet/filter or something i'd imagine? which would be cheaper and easier, convert to digital, or original with led's/color filter/sheet change?

original is always easier, depends how handy you are with a soldering iron and tape. took me 1.5-2 hours and im certainly not new to auto electrics so its no throw in and screw down job for anyone. i originally put an tn dash in my tp using a tm wiring diagram and all colours were the same, just be careful what one goes to what plug. i love the digital dash because its easy to see for me (my sight is hopeless) but both will work. just join into the old loom, dont cut it because then your up the all too common creek with no paddle.
i have the wiring diagrams on my computer (that just crashed so i dont like the chances of finding them), otherwise i emailed them to TPMagnaGLX, so maybe he could forward them on.
i left the original temp sensor in, still works fine, its mainly the oil pressure, fuel gauge and pulse generator you need to grab besides the dash.

good luck.
