Hi

I have a 2000 TH Magna 3.5L and I am experiencing a high pitch squeal from the rear. I have some industrial deafness and I dont hear it but anyone who sits in the rear of my car tells me about it. I thought it may have been the handbrake shoes but I am leaning towards maybe a bearing? Can anyone tell me if the rear wheel bearings can squeal and if so what is required to fix it.

cheers
Al

To check if it is the handbrake (probably is), get someone who can hear it and go for a drive. Pull the handbrake lever up oneor two notches and see it if goes away. If it does, it is probably the handbrake shoes rubbing on the drum.

Seems pretty common - I've got it every now and then despite all attempts to stop it. Mine goes away as per what erad says or if I hit the brakes hard.
