So ,l used to have a Sony H/U that was good in the fact that when you switched between modes ,the aerial would drop if the radio wasn't in use ,nice...http://www.club3g.com/forum/images/smilies/biggthumpup.gif

Then l got a Pioneer H/U and much to my annoyance ,the aerial stayed up all the time when the unit is on...not nice...45905

Solution , install a switch in line with the aerial to manually override it and raise and lower it at any time .

So l got a you beaut factory aerial switch and installed it on the centre consol ,just below the ashtray.

Worked well ,looked iffy and out of place ,but worst of all ,it sucked big time to remove the consol as the ashtray needs to come out first and the switch was in the way..

Idea !! what l needed was a hidden switch some where to raise and lower the aerial..

mmm...what to do ,thought it over a bit and came up with a simple but effective solution best of all ,it works great and is hidden.

What did l do ? http://www.club3g.com/forum/images/smilies/scratchhead.gif

Well, I had several switches lying around and i settled on the earthing switch button that activates the glove box light.

So ,l took the Verada Ashtray out and drilled into the rear of it and mounted the switch.

When the tray is opened ,the switch activates.

ba boom...all l have to do now is open the ashtray about 3-5 mm and the aerial goes up or close it and it goes down.

Simple ,effective and hidden.http://www.club3g.com/forum/images/smilies/noice.gif

I had a mate do a simular thing years ago..... but the Ash tray switch was actually the kill switch for the car.... Ash tray in.... Car starts.... Pull the ash tray out a bit.... Car wont start.
He also used to leave coins in there, because one of the first things a thief will do, is check the ash tray for money.... and usually take the ash tray will them... :D

Hiw did you cut you hole for your switch Mike (mcs_xi). Might grab a how to guide for this one as I like the location of the switch.

The switch comes from Jaycar, and is around $5 I simply make the hole with a dremel, and then I make the hole large enough to suit with a stanley knife and plenty of time so it fits perfect.

Also you need to make the switch fit as far forward as possible (closest to the coin part) so that the lid will still close when the switch is in the 'Half' position (I = half, II= full and O = Off). The picture there is old, and the switch is mildly too far back.
