I have 2 patches on the roof of my storm grey 05GT which are about the size of saucers which have almost bleached white and give a marbling appearance. The clearcoat seems intact. The car is always parked undercover and these patches have only appeared in the last couple of months and seem to be growing.
Anything I can try to improve things or is a roof respray needed?

Have you tried buffing it out at all?

I saw an '08 SIII platinum about 2 months ago in a caryard that had the same kind of thing on the roof bonnet and boot, was also the same colour as yours.

I tried to buff it out but just seemed to make it worse. I reckon a respray or an ideal time to have ' the black look roof'
If I can remember how to post I'll attach a picture.

Not actually bleached at all, it is just the clearcoat letting go of the paint layer. It will grow, and eventually - soonish - the clear will split or crumble and let water in. That's when the colour coat starts to deteriorate. You can get it re-clear coated but it will need a spray painter with patience and a gentle hand. If you try to fix it yourself, use a plastic scraper to get the loose clear off. It will extend way beyond the patches you can see. Use a spray can of clear and give it a couple of coats, once dry rub the edges back so it blends in better. Did this on a peeling spoiler, not perfect but a lot better. There was a row of bubbles looking as you describe in the centre, but the whole horizontal section of the top came off bit by bit with gentle scraping, some in large pieces that look like cellophane.
Alternatively, get a pro to cut the whole roof back and redo the colour and clear coats. A better long term proposition. Boot lid and bonnet are sure to follow unfortunately.

All the side panels are still in pretty good condition but as said earlier the boot panel is looking to be next to go.
My bonnett cost me $350 so I would reckon the roof to be about the same allowing for sunroof.

You would be roughly right there but if you want the job done properly both windscreens have to come out otherwise they can only paint up to the thin rubber strip.

Because I'm going a contrasting colour I'm getting the windscreens out at a cost of $700 :eek2: .... but I want the job done properly

This is correct, you probably saw in my ride thread where both screens came out, sunroof was opened and inside the shade slide was masked up to avoid paint getting inside the car, the good thing about that was the lip of the roof you see when the sunroof is open got painted also so there wasn't any silver bits you could still see that would make it look not factory. Also the little clips that clip onto the black strip will probably break aswell, only a few bucks from Mitsu. If you do decide to get it re painted I'd say go black to blend in with your sunroof.

Why are you spraying your roof? Is it just for a change of colour?

Yep I'm just copying Kiffy but doing something a little different. A while back I had the front lip, grill & surround & area around the foglights done in the gunmetal colour on the rear insert where the exhaust exits. Since I now have the gunmetal coloured wheels I just thought I'd tie it all together.

Has the car been parked in any underground carparks or any carparks with cement roofs?

We discovered form another member who had paint issues that it can be the lime leached out of the ceiling onto the paint. This will destroy the top layer in no time. Since it is on the roof of your car this may be the culprit.
