Hey guys, wasn't to sure if this is the right spot to post this but i get of my P's soon and i own a magna and i am looking at putting some performance into the car. But i'm not sure what i wanna do. But in the end i would like to put a turbo into it.

Can people please give me some ideas to start with :)

Cheers

Forced induction is ridiculously expensive if you're paying someone else to do it. FI normally leads to reliability issues too.

I would stick with what's been tried and tested - best bang for buck is a manual conversion, or even a 6G75 conversion.

I would be investing in better brakes, better shocks, and grippy rubber to get the additional power down properly too.

If you want a kw increase bit still want it to be p plate legal then replace the rear muffler. That will relieve some back pressure and free up the exhaust. Better still, get aftermarket extractors (headers) and replace the catalyctic converter. That would be am easy way to improve power bit by bit. As Red Valdez said, having a manual would get the car moving a lot quicker than an auto, and you get the most power for your money.

I reckon best bang for buck is for the driver to do an advanced driving course which will teach him/her to drive the car in a spirited manned whilst staying legal and not being a danger to others on the road. That may seem a bit square but once you learn to appreciate and take advantage of the capabilities of your car you will then be in a better position to decide what you need to improve performance and keep your license. The extra bonus is that your parents will rest a bit easier and not frown when you tell them you want a supercharger.

thanks guys, your advice will be definatley taken on board and probebly used. I have already done a advanced driving course and am just looking to up the power within the car atm :)

If you want to keep your current size engine and it is in good condition then go for 380 cams, HM headers, full exhaust and a 98 tune. Plus sticky tyres.

If current engine not great and you can afford it then go for the complete 380engine conversion, again with HM headers, exhaust and tune. This gives you even more power than the first option, but then you start to get traction problems and an LSD starts to look like a necessity as well as sticky tyres of course.

If you do either of these though, make sure you upgrade brakes also (380 front brake conversion is great).

Well done mate. I did a course as well and it did me a hell of a lot of good. Especially when it comes to stopping distances and the such.

Just make sure whatever you do, you keep the car legal. It is pretty easy to get defected these days and performance mods catch the eyes of the cops.

Also, I agree with Brett but just keep it simple at first and work your way up to the heavy mods that he suggested (except the engine. If that's toast then its not really worth modifying).

Another way to get a bit more out of your car is to make sure that you regularly replace the oil, coolant, transmission fluid (if it's an auto), brake fluid and pads (to keep the car on the ground), spark plugs etc. Heavy duty ignition leads I find helpful as well. How are your tyres? If they are crap then replace them.

These are the things i have done so far

- Heavy duty ignition lead
- K & N Panel filter
- Rims & Better Tyres
- Lowered
- Exhaust (Magna Flow muffler with stock piping)

Engine is in excellent condition so i will be using the stock engine and putting performance mods into it :)

'Performance mods' and 'Magna engine' don't really go hand in hand lol 380 Cams, extractors and a piggyback/ECU reflash are about all that you can reasonably do on a 6G74 imo.

Hi flow cat and headers have to be the next step here mate. Is it an auto or a manual?

Its an auto atm but i wanna change to a manual :) the auto is to slow in gear changes, so i would perfer a manual. How much would headers and cats set me back you think????
