Got two Lancers in the family, a 2004 with a 2L engine and a 1997 with 1.8L engine.
Both in need of a cam belt change.

Bought a belt for the 2L engine, a Goodyear 40201 from rockauto.com
Does it also fit the 1.8L engine? The two engines are visually identical, the 1.8 is a 4G93, don't know if the 2.0L is also a 4G93 but I assume so.

Rockauto.com isn't being very helpful in giving me the right part number for the 1.8L engine.

Can I assume the belt will fit either engine?

Never assume when it comes to mitsubishi, they loved doing things the hard way :P

I would say ring around other places and get the part numbers for both engines, see if they're the same

The 1.8 is a 4G93, the 2.0 is a 4G94

The belt kit for the 4G93 is a T288AKT
The belt kit for the 4G94 is a T997AKT BUT you also have to be careful here as there was a later change to the timing belt tensioner (was revised) and they are not inter changeable

Figured they were different after some research, seeing the engine numbers are different and the 2.0L has a longer stroke.
My best bet is to pull both down and look what is in there at the moment, belt width and number of teeth, that sort of thing. Fun! lol
