Hi all. I am new to this, so this is my first ever post. I have a TJ Advance station wagon. I have had the car for about 36 months . Just in the last few days the windscreen is fogging up bad on the passenger side. In the past the air con would clear it in 10 secs, but now takes ages and wont total get rid of it. Had the air con inspected a month ago because of a funny sweet smell. he cleaned out what he said were leaves and compost. Anyway, it seemed better for a while but I can still smell that smell I think. Am I smelling anti-freeze? Then I'm thinking 'oh no' not the heater core!!Took it to my mechanic today and he said 'well I don't think so because there is no evidence of leaking. He then took an air gun and blew under the heater core to remove any water in the tray I think. See how it goes in the next few days he said. Now I'm looking at the car through my window and the whole left hand side has fogged up. Only half the windsceen!!! Looks very strange. Has anyone else had this problem?

If you want to drop in I can get my scope up and have a proper look as often people who do not have experience in these cars dont know where to look

Well it seems it is the heater core. Green coolant dripping under the glove box. Damn!!! Going to do a bypass for now. The car's only done 160,000 and regularly serviced. Just bad luck it seems.

Not surprising to be honest, is more a time thing than anything else, servicing generally does not make much difference to heater core seals.

I do these for a fixed price provided I do not have issues with after market items such as audio / gas etc etc, did 3 of these last week lol

Was going to say heater core as well as i had the exact same scenario happen in my car.

Well I only got a new Alpine head unit fitted last week. Infact in the last month I've had that done, a water leak fixed (rear left glass had to be resealed), re-greased the front brake caliper slides (3rd time now) things keep rattling and now starting to again, 4 new tyres, and it seems I wasted $148.00 getting the AC cleaned out because I could smell something not right. It seems what I was smelling was COOLANT! All up I've spent $1100.00 this month and am not up to spending that again on a new core at this stage. So by-pass it is (for now at least). But I will at some stage come out to see you (I'm in Hawthorn) if these caliper slides shit me more, and maybe get you to check the back suspension. I'm hearing the occasional "knocking" sound which can be a bit annoying. Crikey! Maybe time to sell and pick up a nice 380. I'll see how things go.
