hi all

due to old age my power window trims have faded and starting to go a brownish colour:eek2:

and since i am getting a GTV center console, i wanted to paint the interior colours from the standard black to a colour seen on the ralliarts:

Yeah I've been thinking about painting my instrument cluster surround gloss black. I know jessie_james has done some fantastic work on this, dunno if he's in your state or not.

Heaps and heaps of members have including me in my old TE from years ago.

I used Mitsubishi Arctic silver, and you will need some very high grit sandpaper and plastic primer, wax and grease remover as well as the paint and patience.

I cleaned, grease removed and primed my panels, then painted sanded and painted around 6 layers, then clear coated them another 4 layers with a sand in between. Hi Buff polish was then applied to the top coat after drying, and the finish was great and was not susceptable to chips or scratches. For the console you have coming, make sure you take each of the lids off and tape up the black plastic parts to make it all look factory.

If you can, mask them. I believe you have to break the pin slightly to remove the lids. You can put it back together with the spring afterwards but it can work its way out again unless you add some sort of ring to prevent it from sliding its way out.

I dont think Mits has a paint called Artic Silver, I have the list from mits here of all paint codes ever made and there is no mention of Artic Silver in the list

Why not give it a go yourself? Have you got a air compressor and a spray gun?

If you've got the right equipment or have access to some then search for a guy on youtube called "CustomSprayMods". He has done an ep on how to spray the interior console of a car. He's also got a few other vids on how to setup the gun and the technique needed.

John - Mal said he has all the Mitsubishi paint codes and Artic Silver IS NOT on the list. So therefore he cannot give you the paint code.

Your best bet is walk into a Paintshop, Auto paintstore, Autostore like SupercheapAuto, Bursons, Autobarn etc or even Bunnings and have a look at their paint range. I'm sure you'll find something you like. You could probably find a match to artic silver. Have a chat on how to spray it as well. Maybe if you're lucky you can call Mitsubishi and they'll give it to you.

It was what I recall the label on the can said. It was 10 years ago so I could be wrong.

Just pick a colour that is close and the lids will have the colours. As for the cupholder and coin holder lids, you can remove the lids and mask the underside. You will see how it disassembles when you get it.

Your friend will be able to mask it all if he is a panel beater as they mask stuff daily.

Its not hard to give them a VIN number lol just fire up carsales and search for "Magna VR-X Limited Edition" - all cars listed on carsales need to list thier vin number. Even if it's not listed, just do a rego search on Vicroads and it'l come up with a VIN number.
They're not going to get anal about if you actually own the car or not. To my knowledge, the main reason for asking a VIN number is to slow down people from buying parts en mass as Mitsu ony have a certain amount of spare parts available.
On the phone it'l be really easy to do - heck I've walked into the parts department and gave them a completely different VIN number to my car (different year, colour and transmission) and they couldn't care less. Worse comes to worse just say its your sisters car or something,.

Reason for requesting a VIN number is make sure they provide the correct parts for your car. Lots of things change throughout a model cycle (and are different between trim levels ie dash looms) and this is the way Mits ensures they provide you with the correct parts for your particular vehicle.
Downside of that is it makes it a little more difficult in ordering parts from different models for your car but, as pointed out above, it's not too difficult to overcome.

VR-Xs only came in Pewter or Platinum, not in Arctic Silver.
