Im soon going to replace my rear ignition leads on my 6G72, and in order to do so I need to remove my intake runners. One thing I want to check though is wether or not it is necessary to replace the gasket that fits between the intake runners and the intake ports which lead to the heads themselves. I havn't heard of any one else replacing the gasket when they do this, but the last thing I want is a vaccuum leak. Its a 98 model with only 68 000 kms on the clock. Is it neccassary to replace the intake runners gasket?

It's good practice to always replace gaskets when you're pulling something apart and putting it back together.

Re-using a gasket can lead to poorly fitting parts and/or leaks.

Cheers,
Martin.

replace it with Silicon rubber, I'm using it for my gasket, it can take the heat, I've been using it for a while now, it slows down the conduction of hate from the head ports to the runners, but over time it will still hate up due to convection. but it still wouldn't be as hot.

But im not liking the idea of hard silicone being sucked into my engine

it stands the heat, it doesn't break apart, bits don't just fall into the cylinders, I check it often, when i see any form of decay, i change it. but so far, it's still as new, it's been few months now.

repco and ACL use it primarily as gaskets for the water pump, thermostat, carbi/plenum ect ect. i watched a video of it once

when i changed my back plugs the gasket was a full metal type shim thing, thats all !!. hardly what i'd consider a gasket (like a cardboard gasket or even those aluminium perferated gaskets used on exhaust manifolds. so i cleand it up and put it back, i thought it was a bit piss poor as yes you can easily get a air leak

oh and i fergot to add, 68000 kays? the platnum plugs in the back row will last 100 000
thats whythey put them in there, so you dont have to go pullin manifolds and stuff apart every few months :)

40,000 plugs should be changed. i dont think you could do that in a few months

Those metal gaskets are a tad sus and dont normaly seal propperly when re used. They are tin and they compress together, there is a lumped hill in the tin all the way round where i needs to seal, this compressed usualy seals fine. But not when re used

Im taking the intake runners off to change my leads not plugs, I was going to change the plugs just because it would be easy to do while the intake runners were off, but not at almost $30 a plug for the platinum ones. And the way it looks Im going to replace the gasket, does mitsu parts sell all gaskets???

got too far ahead of myself with the plugs bit... and as for yah local mitsu dealer.. they should have the gaskets in stock, mind you, they probably just re-use em and not install new ones :(
