Hey guys...is there a way to integrate a knock sensor into a 3.5L engine...? sounds quite odd i'm sure its been asked before...anything i should know regarding this? :D
Not easily. The 6G72 and 6G74 3rd gen motors lack the hardware to detect knock and adjust timing. The easiest way i can think of is to retro-fit the 380 knock sensor and (its a long shot) get the 3rd gen ECU to read from it. Going on recent convos about the stock 3rd gen ECU, it should have the ability to handle this.
Why do you want a knock sensor anyway? Its far easier to get your car specifically tuned for 95 and/or 98 fuel

True. These days you can get the car tuned for quite cheap.

Having spoken to my tuner, it is not possible at the moment.
Finding out how involves going through tonnes of code that he (Meek, SKR, Hitman contract out to him for R&D on Mitsu ROMS) cannot justify in doing.

When I enquired with him about it, he rekoned he could reuse diamante roms, since they got knock sensor built in.
Would require lots of work ofcourse

So ultimately any reason for a knock sensor can be worked out by getting the correct tune for 95 or 98? Hmm...maybe i should go get a TL manual ECU to get reflashed somewhere...

We tried to use Diamante roms on Sunday, does not work.
May work with some more engineering applied, but I doubt he'll go so far for a Magna ROM... Best bet is to use e85, knock resistance is amazing and you have so many more degrees of timing between high power/torque and detonation
Doesnt the block in the 6G74 need the sensor though? Obviously not a problem for 75 converts...

Yep, and the 6g75 knock sensor bracket is already drilled and tapped (just above water pipe between "V") for a knock sensor to be used.

Once my CAI is done im going to tune for LPG, same ocatne as e85 so result should be amazing.....

Haha you bastard!
How much does an LPG system weigh?? Can't wait until your car is sorted, I need to have go for a run against you one day :P

hahahaha its a date! it adds about 70kgs with full tank, but then you have to carry only little bit of petrol, so nett weight gain is about 40kgs

It reckon its more possible than you think... i just dont have a magna to try a few things on as VR4 already has knock code. Few ideas would be change the code of a rom with coil packs to drive a distributor.
Also, most magna roms i've seen have provision for two maps, its just in the code they point to the same map.
I've even found bits and pieces of leanspool (afr modication code) in a TF/TH magna rom. it's missing all the other routines that make that code work. it because the rom is compiled from the same code, and if its too had to remove, its easier to leave the code there and disable it via periphery bits/dummy values/stubs in memory.
how desperate are people for it? i could probably whip something up if someone wants to test?

Hmm well ultimately i just want to get a bit more out of my magna..i guess it's just way more sensible to get a an ECU reflashed with a ralliart rom? If anyone can tell me exactly what i need to buy to get this done.

Youre better off modifying your existing ecu. Things like raised rev limit and better fuel maps are easy enough in the right hands.
Its worth doing a few mods first though like better cams

Tuning is something you do at the end. Forget it until you do some more mods.
Go buy Mr Roberto's 3.5 build kit for $1.2k (I think), assemble it, tune it and it'll be a rocketship!

For that kind of coin could i not spend an extra little bit and just get a 3.8L engine? :)

Install 3.8m, Buy mr robertos stage 2 cams. Install cams in 3.8L and see 180fwkw. WINRAR
