Hi all how goes, does a 380 engine bolt straight in to a tj 5 speed auto and the auto 380 gearbox will that bolt to the 3.5 engine . Just looking at some options found 1/3 of wave spring when flushing so have to do something . Thanks guys

380 auto gearboxes, at the moment, do not work in any Magna.

I am soon going to fit one to my car but I am running the TL ECU and I suspect the output shaft tooth count is close enough for the TCU to cope with it, will be letting people know once done. If I can learn enough to get into the TCU programme and find where the values for the output and input shafts actually are then it would be possible to use these in a Magna

hey mal what would be the advantage of using a 380 auto box? how much better were they compared to the 5sp auto from the magna's?

No you can not use the 380 ECU's totally different set up and have CanBus as well
The advantage would be the fact that I have many many 380 customers and am yet to ahve one have a box die in it lol. Also with the 5sp autos getting harder to get, the 380 ones are very easy to get hold of at the moment

At the moment you can't use a 380 auto in a Magna at all (but it looks like Madmagna is trying to solve that problem).
380 ECU is a totally different animal to a Magna ECU , i think it's a Canbus system(?) whereas the Magna system isn't. Basically, you can't use it.

Hey Mal
Can you fit the older 4spd auto box into a model with 5spd when it dies? Has this been done, could be cheaper too :)
Anyone done this?

I think you can but the drive shafts have to be swaped as well , i think i heard this somewhere , not 100% . but the other question was will the 3.8 and box drop straight in to magna ? Thats where i was going with the ecu ? could i buy a wreck and swap the lot go by wire everything or is it the gearbox tcu problem at moment ? thanks guys for input. Greg.

You can not use the 380 system even wire by wire, there is way too much different between the cars.
You can bolt the 380 box in once some mods are done to one of the trans mounts, it is the electrical TCU part that is the issue
Ozverada, the issue with the 4sp to the 5sp conversion is cost, have done this in my TE but is not cheap as the box on its own is more expensive than the 4sp box then you have ecu, drive shafts, engine loom etc
