I've had my 380 for about 2 months now and the one thing that is annoying me is the lack of being able to play music from my phone

I've had a look at changing the head unit but would rather leave it as is

From reading some other threads I don't think the unit has any sort of way of putting a aux input in, is that true?

If the only option is to replace the head unit, are there any players which actually suit the 380's dash?

Unfortunately the 380 stereo doesn't support AUX in. There is a iPod cable you can plug in the back that plugs into the dock connector. This give you access to the playlists on your phone, but I personally don't think it is worth it. The CD stacker is just as suited to having playlists in my opinion. They're not cheap either, I think they're around $100+

I just installed a AVN726EA into my 380. I'm loving it, but it does stick out about .5cm from the facia. So while it looks good, it doesn't look OEM which is a little sad. In saying that, I'm super happy with my decision and I managed to get the OEM facia from a 380 ES so at least my center console doesn't look shitty :D

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately I have a windows phone (Nokia Lumia 800) with Zune pass which doesn't allow to burn to CD's

One thing I was thinking was maybe a amplifier with aux in?

Hi Chris,
Firstly welcome!
Secondly Good choice on the windows phone - i have the same one :P
Thirdly, another Chris in WA (my housemate) - has a black vrx with the AVN726EA installed, so if you come out to a meet or organise it we could show you what that looks like oyu may decide that an aftermarket headunit could be put up with. as it is by far the easiest solution if you can stomach it, otherwise you will be doubling up on hardware at some point in the chain.

Cheers,

Jamie

Thanks Stormie,

surprisingly enough I have not seen another black VRX in perth yet, yet theres 3 in the thread already

I read in another thread replacing the head unit breaks the LCD screen, does this hapen?

no doesnt break the lcd screen. (breaking implies that it cannot be fixed)
bascially disconnecting the headunit causes the screen to display cd error whenever data from the headunit would be displayed. again can show you in person.
all other functions on the screen continue to work.
the date screen is not affected at all.

Replacing the head unit means that you get to put a GPS in the top hole. Except you won't know what the temperature almost is anymore.

My head unit has sat nav ;)

I like the top screen. Also shows you if someone has left a door open, outside temp, what climate things you have on without having to take your eyes completely off the road.

It also is pretty badass, in my opinion anyway.

yeah I quite like the top screen, wouldn't want to remove it and why I don't want to break it

It really won't break. I keep mine on the screen the displays climate control. Everything still works, just to the left of the climate section where it usually says disc # and track # it says "Comm Error". It's really not that intrusive. If you dig around in some 380 audio/aux threads I'm know people have posted a picture of how it looks.

I think Foozrcool just mounted his stock headunit in the boot to avoid seeing the error message :P

I still find it hard to believe you went to all of that effort to not even clear the error, just slightly change it ;p

No great effort as I had all the seats etc out anyway & was running cabling everywhere for the audio install.

You will never get rid of the programming that tells the ecu there should be a factory head unit sitting on the canbus so I think Audio System Off is much better than the word COMM ERROR on the screen. If I was really worried about that message I could always attach the old fascia to the head unit in the boot & turn it on & then that message would disappear but then the volume level would be on the screen & not move with the volume of my new head unit ..... much of a muchness I say .....

Mate, just go into your Zune Music folder and burn the music with Windows Media Player?
