Hey guys, i have made an offer on a 1990 Mitsubishi Galant GSR. it has done 143000 kms, is a 5 speed manual, rego until the 26th of July, was imported by the owner from Japan in 1990, and has owned it since. The old man is selling because he has had a stroke and had to hand in his licence.
The car is in excellent condition inside and quite good outside, except the bumper where he has hit a gutter or something and has bent up the bottom of it a bit. It has, electric windows and mirrors, power steering (yes, i am happy about this) and air conditioning (I own a Colt, okay?) Cruise Control, tape... atleast it's original, and electronically adjustable suspension :hmm:
I have made an offer to the owner of $2,500. The dealer selling it on his behalf believes it's worth more than that, but when i jumped on Redbook, it reccomended 1100-2200, so i thought it was.
So what i am asking is, do you think it is an unreasonable price? What largley went wrong with these? And are they as reliable as the Magna and the Colt?
Any suggestions/comments would be largley appreciated.

They are good cars. They were built to a similar specification to the jdm lancer. That's your best comparison I can think of. A mate of mine had one and it was golden for years. He treated it rough as well. Still goes. I see it every now and then owned by a p plater in my area.

My first car was a '89 Galant GSR and while it was a solid car, the electronic suspension became a problem towards the end of its life. At $2300 for the rear suspension alone, the cheaper (yet just as difficult to source and install correct parts) option to put in standard suspension is what drove me away from it and into a magna. I paid $2100 for mine in 2007 with 6 months rego, 280xxx on the clock, perfect body, everything working, etc...
It certainly couldn't hurt to talk it down :)

Turns out that the owner will go $2750, which is way too much. So i think i'll spend the money on getting the Colt registered.

Personally I can't stand colts. Take it out back and shoot it. Buy the gsr.

Only kidding. They aren't bad cars if you treat them nice. I still think the galant would be great though

The Aussie delivered GSR galants wern't turbo, they ran a non turbo 4G63, good for 90kw. Although the OP did say it was an import (which is strange coz they were sold in Aus, so why import?) so it may have been turbo.
Obviously this post is late and you probably didn't buy it but if they wanted more than $2500 they wanted too much. I paid $6000 for one with a evo3 engine conversion and lots of other goodies in 2003 so that gives you an idea. And as stated by someone else the ECS is a big issue on these, had already been ripped out and repaced on the one I had when i got it.

Yeah, the lowest they'd go was $2750, so it's still sitting there. Which is a shame. I ended up buying a AU2 Falcon, so i think i should have talked down the price of the Galant :)
I'd have to check the compliance plates, but the original owner said he imported it in 1990?
