hey guys,

I've had my Verada for about 18 months - with no problems. About a month ago it started to splutter during anything more than light acceleration. It does not do this in neutral - only in drive. It does not splutter at idle either

so far i have replaced plugs, leads, fuel filter, dizzy, and no success...

my engine light came on after the dizzy replacement but no faults are logged

i have tried to search through the forum for this problem but have not found any threads with the same set of symptoms.

any thoughts?

Try cleaning the intake.

stuttering or shuddering? I had a shuddering under light load when going uphills, was sure of it being plugs leads etc, turned out to be the transmission (torque converter). Transmission replaced with reco, all good!

Injectors are possibly filthy. Run $10 worth of injector cleaner through it before replacing your gear box. Hayden is probably right though, dirty intake. There is a DIY to clean this in the 2nd Gen section

My mate had a KE with exactly the same problem. We changed EVERYTHING like you have. The car was hardly drivable some times. Ended up being the ecu

You said it doesn't do it in N, what happens if you floor it for a second in N, will it stutter?
My friends Magna had this problem and his O-rings for the spark plug holes were leaking

You changed the dizzy, engine light came on, does that not indicate perhaps there is an issue with that dizzy.

It is often hard to determine a stutter if it is from the motor or an issue with the trans especially when only under load.

I would go back to the dizzy, grab a used one from a 3.5 and pop that in. If then no good do not discount the trans and also the ECU as you may have a leaking heater seal and the ECU may be getting we also

Just thought I would add my two cents worth after nearly giving up on my 3ltr V6 TF magna auto.
Problem of stuttering under load suddenly appeared about 3 weeks ago. Went to take off from an intersection when warm and suddenly felt like it was running out of fuel. Continued to do this when warm. Would start and idle well but any load when warm would make it cut out or "stutter". Over about 2500rpm it would again pull cleanly. I was still able to drive the vehicle but it was only just useable. I had a daily 55km commute so didn't have much choice.
Took it to a mechanic and he assured me it would be the leads. Changed them and it still did it. I took it home and took off the distributor cap and found it to be worn out with a stuffed rotor button contact. Thinking this would definately fix it changed it along with a new rotor button but still had same problem.
Spark plugs had been changed (all 6) only 25,000 k's before. There was no engine light showing on dash. Mechanic was very confused and so was I. I then purchased an oxygen sensor after reading some other member posts on here saying this can be faulty with no error code coming up. This didn't make any difference. Now very frustrated as a last resort I decided to change the ignition coil which I purchased off ebay despite being told parts arent available and I would have to buy a whole new distributor. Got one for $48 plus $10 delivery from a Melbourne business. After 3 weeks and much frustration this part fixed the problem. Dont bother buying the Haynes repair manual to do this job as it doesn't describe how to do it only full dissy replacement. Anyway long story short replacing this part fixed the problem and now my fuel ecconomy is great and it doesn't stutter under load.

Hope this post helps someone else. The tips I got from this site helped me heaps.

Is common especially when dist cap has been shagged for a while

Not an as good with Magnas/Verada as some of the fellas here, but I had a similiar problem from my old Verada, I found adjusting the TPS did the trick.

my problems sorta the same, when i stop my 3.0 ltr magna tf wagon (SOMETIMES) it will go down to like 500rpm, like it is about to stall then go upto 1200 roughly and then back down to about 8-900, not to much of a problem just a tad annoying when i haveto stop at lights then as i come to dead stop they go green and i try to take off while the revs are being spastic

spastic RPM = Idle speed controller.
