I just called Melville Mitsubishi for a quote to
change the 3 rear platinum spark plugs.
And they quoted $129.60 all up.
The service guy said 3 platinums are about $58 parts
and the rest is labour.
Is this too cheap??! anyone want to confirm?

For the amount of work that appears to be involved, that sounds way to cheap

get Iridium ones, they last just as long and are cheaper than Platinum ones.
and Iridium ones have more consistent spark because of the smaller diameter (0.6mm) positive end.
Changing them yourself isn't too hard either, strongly encourge you to try if you have spare time and have sockets and just need to buy extra gaskets for the intake plenum to throttle body and to inlet manifold/head manifold.

Do it yourself then you only pay for the plugs!!!!

Yeah it seemed too cheap from mitsubishi dealer,
I said its quite involved requires the manifol being taken
out, and service guy said yes thats rite and that is their normal price.
So seems like he quoted the correct price. though he didn't mention
gaskets or anything. so maybe a little higher with gaskets etc.
I got a quote from Midas melville and they wanted $305 to do the
same 3 sparks.
Blake, sounds like a good mini project, when are you thinking of
changing your plugs? I had just changed the front 3 sparks last w/e.
Didn't dare change the rears even with the the gregory's manual.
My 3.5 idle is pretty rough so I thought i would try new plugs.
Its done 80,000+ km
So NGK platinums will be fine? and where/what gaskets do I need to buy?? price?
:D

hay all i was speeking to a mechanic and he said that it is a metal gasket and you dont need to replace it so you just use the same one if this is true i dont know but thats what he said let me know how you go becasue i want to do the plugs myself allso

When i replaced the plugs in the TH, we just reused the gasket that was already there.

100,000K service require quite a few things to be changed
1) 3 x Platinium Plugs
2) Timing belt ( chage all the other belts too while you are at it)
3) Cam seals
4) gaskets
5) waterpump (not sure ,some say do it some say dont, i ddint do it in my old magna and nothing happend)
check with some other mitsu dealers as well for the price as this price seems very low.
and if this is the right price get it dont professionaly if your car is under warranty

mmm yes i pulled a metal gasket out of mine and replaced it with the gasket kit for the 3.5L from repco, which is the fibre type. it is running fine though. maybe ring mitsu to see if they supply these metal gaskets....

I just called up Melville Mitsubishi and they sound great! Finally a decent dealership I can trust
Sorry slays but i've decided to leave this one to the pro's coz its only $99 to change all 6 plus but im supplying my own plugs (i've got 6 iridiums here). Also getting my gearbox oil changed for $70 which includes sythetic oil.
I think these are VERY reasonable prices for a mitsu dealership. When I got down and if im happy with their service I might speak to them in regards to sponsoring AMC WA. Will report to everyone on how I go.

Ok that sounds pretty good, at least someone else
has confirmed the dealer pricing is legit.
Where did you guys get the Iridiums from??
I suppose they should only charge about $75 to change
the rear plugs if I supply the iridiums then.
since I've changed the front bank, they only take 5 mins
each to change anyway.
I will book mine in for next week then :)

Aussie Magna your saying your supplying all the plugs and they still charging u $99. i work in mitsu in mt gambier(south east sa) and we charge $66 an hour so that would b 1 1/2 hours. i can personally replace all plugs in about half an hour. thats sounds rediculous.
and the gaskets can get re-used over and over again.
n e 1 that is doin it themselves. u dont have to undo the throttle body, simply remove the air tube/air box from it. undo all your other bolts, tilt the manifold towards the passenger side and hold it up with a large screw driver or something of the like.

Thanks for the tip hendo, Im still a little bit nervous of removing the plenum etc just yet on my new VRX. Oil changes etc fine but TB's and Plenums scare me lol Its weird as I rebuilt a motorbike from the ground up and im too scared to change the plugs in my VRX lol

Good inside info Hendo :)
Just booked service for 2morrow morning.
Melville Mitsu. quoted
Labour inc gst $66 to change the 3 rear spark plugs
with me supplying the 3 NGK Iridiums.
Also decided to get them to do the fuel filter.
$20 labour + $50.6 fuel filter
gee the fuel filter sounds like a 5 minute job?? only $20 labour?
should really learn to do this stuff!
$50.6 for a mitsu fuel filter is quite expensive hey? oh well :)
