TJ2 4spd tippy
We got the foggy windscreen and the smell.
Shortly after this the auto has played up with rough shifts then going into limp mode.
Did the carpet check and found the heater core seal leak.
Followed the instructions by Madmagna and Life - Thankyou Gentlemen - and removed the core.
We are hoping that our tranny problem is a result of the coolant leak....
I have removed the ECU and wish to open it to thoroughly clean and dry but prying the obvious tabs near the sockets to open it up has not been successful. Can anybody offer any tips to opening the box without causing damage?

Thanks in advance
Regards Craig

You will need 5 fine tipped wedges of some sort (screwdrivers with fine tips but that thicken very rapidly like some jewellers screwdrivers can be made to work).

Work 4 wedges in between the outer casing and the connector adjacent to the lugs, on the inside edge (ie edge closest to centre of the case panel) of the lug. When you have the wedges in far enough to lift the casing sufficiently for the outer case to slide over the lug, the 5th wedge is inserted between the edge of the connector and the outer case and the connector (with PCB attached) should be easy to lever out.

You may have to use the wedges again to get the PCB back into the casing. Try not to spread the casing any more than necessary, and be gentle with the wedge that you use to lever the PCB - some parts of the connector are quite fragile and its easy to damage the locks that secure the harness cables (which can then result in difficult to trace intermittent faults).

Sorry, not a great description... :( I'd set up a photo, but I'm not close enough to the bits to do it at the moment.

BTW, I'd only use Isopropyl Alcohol or a similar solvent (Jaycar, DSE etc) to clean the PCB and take care in the handling.

Most of the time the TCU issue will be moisture on the pins of the plugs, try these first
