Hi Guys

I've run out of ideas, need some expert help with this wagon I have had for 6 yrs and really take care and is well maintained. Some time back at the Mall it just would'nt start, after waiting and cranking many times it finally started and I managed to drive back home , I then started to trace the fault and I found that the 4 wire connections on the dizzy had corroded and after a sound cleaning of both connectors it ran well for a day and not too far from me home it just stopped, I managed to push it back with help from some good people and ever since its been a month. I've tried everything in the book, just cannot get it to start. I have replaced it with a new dizzy, pwr transistor, ign coil, fuel regulator, ecu, engine control relay, still no go !! sparking on all plugs are good ,Fuel pump and pressure good electrical signal on fuel injectors seem ok ign timing also set according to manual.
Any help will be appreciated tnx

where are you in vic
if it has fuel spark and is timed right it should fire the only thing i can think off maybe the cold start injector .
have you checked the dizzy connector again as it may be the plug needs replacement

Tnx Magnaman69 for your responce yes i have checked continuity of the 4 wires to the ECU they are all good and more over the sparking is all good and fireing in the correct order. Could u eleborate on the cold start injector I live in Melbourne tnx again

Has any cylinder fired at all since you put the new distributor in it?? Backfiring whatever?? ANy action at all??
How did you do the timing for the ignition when you installed the distributor?
Check there is no corrosion on the injector connections as i had a maxima that had problems starting once and it was due to corrosion at the injector connections.
If you have spark and fuel is the spark plugs wet from petrol when it is not firing when you remove and check them?? Vee

Tnx Vee Yes theres been the odd cylinder firing i couldnt tell but no start and no back firing at all. I have a compression test meter which i used to detect pressure build up in the cylinder NO 1 with the mark on the harmonic balancer lining up with the 0 deg on the scale at TDC. Rotating the dizzy foward and back also made no difference. After cranking the engine many times (5 to 8) i do get the smell of unburnt fuel from the exhaust which i assume is bcoz all the cylinders arnt firing up .Today i replaced the fuel regulator just incase the old one was playin up no change !!Hmmm checked the injector contacts all good no signs of corrosion.

best way to check timing is remove the rocker cover check timing gear for the dowel hole is at the top rotor button should be pointing to the electoral connector . im in Clayton Sunday if your still having trouble pm me if your close i,ll drop by

Hi Magnaman Tnx for your help i managed to set the timing and got it runnin at 5.30 pm today. However i still dont know what the actual fault was and i will be back trackin so that i get to some conclusion.I do have a strong suspicion that the fuel pump could be intermittent .I will put it up when i get it all cleared up in case any one else has a similar problem Thanks
Cheers!

Hi Guys just for the benifit of anyone who comes across a similar kinda problem and a tricky one too heres the analysis .The engine stopped once again at home so i was prepared this time to check the fuel pump in this state. With the key removed i fed 12v to the pump via the clip on the firewall and noticed the current was almost twice the amount than it recorded when it ran the last time ie 680 ma .Earlier the pump recorded a current of 300ma and varying up to 360ma. its a kinda intermittent fault which would seize up the pump and make it work eratically , hard to detect the new pump just draws 160ma inside the tank with fuel and with that seems to run fine. guess it was high time for replacement after running for 20 years eeerrr!!!! :) Cheers!!
