I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S2 and it wont pair with the bluetooth in my car. My phone will pair with other devices ( my wife phone) and bluetooth in a friends car. My pervious phone (a Samsung wave S8500) paired with my car.
I feel that the bluetooth maybe outdated and a firmware to be updated.
I went to a Mitsubishi dealer and they said that it cannot be done ( update firmware ) because the bluetooth company went under. They said the only thing we can do is is put a new one in at a cost of just under $600. I said its not worth it :(
The system on my car is Parrot VM3.18
Any advise on whether you can update the firmware or not would be appreciated and in S.A.
You've got the same Parrot system and firmware that I do, and as far as I know Parrot still exist because their products are still on the market. I know someone who had a Parrot system installed into their 2011 Camry late last year. I believe the Parrot firmware comes as an upgrade through Mitsubishi and you can source a part number for that firmware upgrade. I'm not having any issues connecting my iPhone with it, and given the SGS2 and iPhone are competiting for the market I don't see why it wouldn't connect to the car. I'm pretty sure theres a Parrot VM3.20 upgrade around somewhere.
Have you got your SGS2 running ICS yet?
Have a look at this for compatibility too.
http://www.ngabluetooth.com.au/assets/pdf/Mitsubishi_Bluetooth.pdf It's slightly outdated, but you might need the SGS2's model number also to check.
Part number MR936542 is the upgrade for Parrot VM3.20.
Which dealer told you it wasn't available?

Should still be available, I was on the hunt for globes for my BT unit a few weeks back and Mitsu told me they still sell the unit as it is the same used in the current CJ lancer....
I remember back in the day my BT would only connect with my old nokia when it wanted. They upgraded the unit under warranty to the VM3.20 and it worked fine ever since. Got an iPhone recently and never bothered to connect it to my car till recently and no problems connecting, it's even alot louder and easier to hear people with it being connected to the iPhone then it was with my nokia for some reason.
Even though it won't pair, I'm assuming it picks up the parrot system yes?

How many devices have you paired to the bluetooth over the years?
I have a faint, distant memory of the 380 system being limited to a maximum number of devices. If you want to add a new one once the memory was full, you had to dump the lot and start again.

Do you get voice control with your iPhone? I've found it pretty good so far, hit the button and it goes into voice control mode on the phone, I say who I want and it dials them.

Yea had it with my nokia and it sometimes called someone else thinking I said that name instead lol I decided I'd select who I wanted to speak to and make the call that way. No chance of accidentally calling someone you dislike lol

Hi Again
I did some research via
Strike Group Australia Pty Ltd
4-6 Masters St
Newstead Qld 4006
Australia
P 1300 792 044
F 1300 792 054
W www.strike.com.au (http://www.strike.com.au/)
who are the agents for parrot and was referred to one of their local resellers, who reflashed mine to V 5.25C. A cable is required to do this
Reseller told me that this effectively converted unit from 3000 to 3000 Evo, and Evo should be reflashable via BT, but I have not tried
Sadly the volume control issue was not fixed either for iPhone 3gs or iPhone 4
However audio quality from both ends was improved - less echoing to remote caller and clearer in car sound

What Maggie said.
Can you update the Bluetooth via PArrot's Website?? I had a Parrot Bluetooth system a while ago, and it was just a matter of connecting my laptop to the Parrot BT, (via Bluetooth), and upgrading the Firmware...

From research I did when I had mine, I believe it can't do the bluetooth upgrade & needs a special lead to hard connect for the upgrade.

I have a samsung galaxy note which is the same device as yours where it counts and it connects fine. Tell me something, are you running ICS? because the default voice control doesn't work on my note :(. Worked fine on my iphone, but my note is running gingerbread still. It would be good to know whether they've improved it or not.

This would be awesome, is it hard to do?

Another SA member, welcome
I have a SGS running a custom ROM. I then have a seperate bluetooth speaker unit in the car, think its motorola and my phone rarely auto connects. I have to switch BT off on my phone then on my unit, wait a few seconds then BT back on on the phone and then flick the unit back on. I know they are different but could be something with samsung maybe?

RRP was 79.95, I can do them for $70 each, I have 2 of them
Maggie, I can drop one off to you on Friday Evening if you want one, Mecha, unfortunately you are in NSW so I would need to freight it to you, would be $14 for an AAE bag
They are easy to fit, they are plug and play
Leigh, if either of the above people dont want one, you are next in line.
I'm guessing I must have the cable installed, I can already control the volume with the steering wheel.

I had my BT module upgraded to V3.20 via a dealer and the volume fix cable fitted for free under warranty as it is the fix Mitsubishi implemented for very low volume on Nokia phones running a certain version of the Symbian OS from a few years ago. My phone was affected and needed the cable so I could use the stereo volume to make it loud enough to hear. My wife's lower spec Nokia of the same time was fine, as were other phones. It was a problem with the low end Parrot system in the car, I have a better one that's older in my Falcon and it was fine with that Nokia phone.
When I was looking into it back then I found the certain version used in these cars is a little different to what Parrot show and I don't think any V5.xx firmware is compatible. May work, may not. V3.20 was the latest at the time and probably hasn't been updated. There probably isn't much need as the BT standard it uses can be used by all phones, even newer ones, which revert to the older connection speed.
That said, mine may be for sale as I'm thinking of putting in a double din head unit with BT and Iphone cable.

I find that my Samsung Galaxy Ace sometimes connects on its own, but there are many occasions (almost 50/50) i have to manually connect to the car. There have been a couple of times it has not found the car at all! I can't understand whether its the phone or the car's bluetooth system.
I too have found that the volume is a bit low at the higher travelling speeds. Is there a specialist in Melbourne's South East area that can upgrade the car's bluetooth system. I have found the nearest dealer (Chadstone) clueless about the system.
As madnador said, pm madmagna :)

It's usually the phone when you have strange issues. My Iphone works better than the Nokia ever did. The Nokia always connected but was slooooow to disconnect if I pressed the button and towards the end was not talking anymore so I couldn't hear who it was actually calling. I was thinking it was the BT system but with the new phone it's all fine and better than ever.
