These look amazing. Very OEM looking!

Quick idea, how would they look if you colour coded the lense with a similar colour to the car being fitted too? Just an idea?

Now i no doubt that this little project of Jamie's and mine ,has created a bit of interest and no doubt a few questions ,and i hope to answer a few questions and dispel any wrong ideas.

Where to start..

As the headlight needs to be taken apart ,the bezel can be painted any color you like ..at a cost .

In saying that various bits can be painted and at what cost ,is up to you and Jamie/Mr SPL,as he is the one making these.

As you an see from the examples provided below ,you will notice that the lenses appear colored.

Again ,these are painted to the color of your choice ,at a cost.

This is just an optical illusion created by the curvature of the lens ,reflecting the painted color of the shield.

What is the shield....

In a projector bi-xenon lens ,there is a metal plate that is shaped to give the cut out line of your light..this is the effect you see on your lights when you see the light angle of to the left and up slightly.

In the projector lens ,this shield is activated by a solenoid switch ,which drops the shield /flap and allows a full lens output of light.

https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTmDnNfAOs7e1QvdXli_BkqGFVDoaHyV 1Lg1NA3Kde6zpz2kO1Vmghttp://pictureposter.audiworld.com/55916/g4_remove_shield.jpg

It works in principal like your std H4 beam ,except ,that the light is on ALL THE TIME ,and the low/high effect is created by the moving of the shield.

Depending on your choice of set up ,you can choose to retain the std high beam lens and either run std globes or put a H1 HID kit in there.Putting a HID kit in the high beam is okay as it doesn't give on the glare that normally happens in a std lens.

Or you can ,as i am ,run quad HID and have high beam HID as well.

The light output and sharpness of the cutout line needs to be seen to be believed. It is such a sharp cut out and the light is white.

Again ,globe choice will vary as well.6000k lights will border on the white with a very slight bluish tinge ,where as running 5000k lights will be closer to a stock color.

What do projectors and bi-zenon lights look like on the road ?

Next time you are out and about ,take note of the cars lights appear to flicker bluey white ,these cars generally have projector lights in them.

In running HID in the high beam ,you need to be aware that there is a slight delay whilst the globe "fires up " to its full brightness.

Depending on the ballast and kit ,this can vary from 2-5 seconds.

The shield painting that gives you the color is only present from certain angles and is NOT visible all the time.

The photos have been taken to high light the color aspect. In the other photo ,you can see the color isn't present ,and that's just because the angle is different.

I chose Red cause it just looks cool.

Any color can be used.Foozers gold colored car could have the shields painted gold ,and Kif's silver ,to give examples of the color that can be used.

If you want more information about HID and Projector lights,

Visit and log onto HiDplanet (http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/forum.php)

There you will find some stunning examples of light retrofitting.

DISCLAIMER...now ,all of the above is based on my own experience and i take no responsibility for any decisions that people may make pertaining to running HID projectors in your cars light system.
Like all mods ,it is up to you to decide what is right for you.

Viewedfrom an angle so the color is not visible

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x112/micpea/PROJECTOR%20PARAS/IMAG0116.jpg

Again ,no color present due to the angle.

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x112/micpea/PROJECTOR%20PARAS/IMAG0318.jpg

Blue shield painted ,viewed from the optimum angle to see the color

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x112/micpea/PROJECTOR%20PARAS/IMAG0310.jpg

Again RED color is very present due to the angle and also the flash picking it up more

The new Bi-Zenon projectors soon to go into my Black 380 GT.

You need Galant GTS/Ralliart ones.

Had a peek-a-boo at the lights today and ,nom nom....they look great .

The blacked out bezel looks fantastic up against the cars black paintwork.

Still contemplating whether or not to paint the reflector around the low beam.

Will do a comparison shot when the next one is built and decide then.
Im leaning a bit towards painting it .

With the projector high beams what do you do for a parking light since they are in the same stock lens?

He has set up a set of led/angel eyes behind the shrouds of the projectors that shine through the holes in the shrouds andwork as parkers.

Of course ,if you choose just to have a projector lens on the low/high ...the factory parker is retained and just use a hid globe in there .

No point leaving a stock globe in there as you just wont see it when you hit the high beams and the shield drops on the projector.

Angel eyes for parkers? These would go great with the Galant tail lights in the back.

Jamie unfortunately only had enough stock on hand to build one light.

New parts have been ordered.

I will ask him to put up some shots of the lights lit up...be warned though ,it is hard to take pictures of leds in the dark and iffy in the daylight ,ive seen them on ,and they do look magical.

Ok cool, really want to see the beam pattern & do the angel eyes look like the current BMW setup or not that bright/white?

Ok cool, really want to see the beam pattern & do the angel eyes look like the current BMW setup or not that bright/white?

Not a circle like the BMW's.The shrouds have holes in them and the lights shines through these holes.

Took a couple of shots of the beam pattern on my Magna the other night.

Now ,lots of disclaimers .These are halogen projectors with hid globes, and the high beam ones are out of alignment ,but it gives you some idea of the cut out line i have .

As these were my first ever set ,there is a slight rotational issue with the lens ,which can be seen be the line of light being not quite level, meh ,dont notice it once you are driving.

And for those na sayers poo pooing hid ,these ars set up fine and dont dazzle or blind ,i have driven in front of my car with them on and seen it approaching on the road. The dipping and so called "blinding "is no worse than all the other cars on the road running projectors<dare i say it ,the worst offenders are the higher SUV with projectors ,Toyota's are the worst.

The bi-Zenon ones fitted to the 380 lights will be even better ,wider ,more focused ,less spotting etc.

Okay just a quick update:

Parts have been ordered and are on their way to finish mikes set first. Will have plenty more on hand for anyone who wants theirs done straight away also :) Very excited about the finished product!

In all honesty i think i will paint the reflectors black but leave the projector shrouds chrome as they are ( As i wanted to in the first place!! )

Pics of the angel eyes, Mike is right it is very very hard to get LED shots when they are so bright. These are a bright white also

I havnt taken any cutoff pics of the 380 lightsyet as they are not in a car but i will post these up for now (projectors in other cars i have done) :

One projector only

Projector cutoff line. This is what you will see in front of you :)

http://i1033.photobucket.com/albums/a416/hdach3/DSC00898.jpg

When high beam is activated you have the option to drop the "cutoff" so you let all the light through
