Gday AMC audio people!
So I'm currently in a pickle on what sub's to get, and how I can still have decent space in the boot. Amp needs to be mounted somewhere as well.
I've currently got an gas tank in there and I'd still like to have a decent SQ system on a budget. The boot is tight enough so I'm not really wanting to loose more space to a anouther amp + sub.
My current system is as follows:
Headunit: Old Pioneer DEH-P4050UB
Front Speakers: Morel Dotech Ovation
Amp: Alphine MRP-240 pumping the speakers with approx. 80wrms
Planned Amp: Jaycar 4ch Response amp.
Cabling: Cheap 4ga SCA wiring
Potential plans (would appreciate guidance which would sound the best)
- Amp on bootlid. How would be the best way to make sure it holds on well?
- Amp under passenger seat. Would this create too much heat inside cabin?
- Get punchy 6x9's and only direct bass to them.
- Create higher false floor and use space to fit single 4ch AB amp and a sub. Replace spare with spacesaver, and use extra space to make a sub box. Concerns are that false floor may not have good enough support to take weight of items in boot.
- Fill 6x9's space with slimline subwoofers and build small subbox underneath (between top of gas tank and speaker)
Also wouldn't mind a bit of help of which sub to choose. Ideally I'd like a SQ setup (if possible) with the sub's being able to give a bit of punch. I like my dubstep, trance, dance and some rock as well but I would not want to have a very loud car as I'll probably get banned from the neighbourhood lol I
Thinking of getting a Crescendo Etude 2.10 - worth the money?
I appreciate all your help folks! Car audio is not my strongpoint!

You got some cool ideas there....
Amp on the boot lid will muck with the spring tension..... Not so hot.
I like the deck and splits
Nice two channel....
Amps under the seats is fine....
The jaycar is great, but I'd suggest keeping the alpine, heading down the SQ road. Get a small mono with a good 2 Ohm output and run a 2 Ohm woofer of that.....
If you are feeling game, try your hand at Fibreglassing, I had a go at one recently, made some mistakes, but had fun, and wound up with a very decent box that fits in the rear quarter panel..... (http://i1191.photobucket.com/albums/z467/Shootmarty/Sub%20Build/IMG_1109.jpg).
There is loads of youtube vids to show you how.....
Otherwise false floors are done with 8-12mm Mdf and brace boards and hold anything you dare put in there, but the good sounding ones have a MDF box or custom FG Box to seal the sub anyway.... If there are raised enough, you wont need the space saver, just mould a box that fits in to an alloy spare....
I've got a 500W 2 channel jaycar amp mounted vertically in the left rear corner of the boot and a 12" sub in a wedge box behind the passenger seat.
My 3 year old's feet sit on top of this. I don't know what I'm going to do when his legs are longer.
I don't know how important your rear seat leg room is, but this is one option. Put it on the drivers side for free back massages :)

Cheers for the input and advice lads! Appreciate it

I was concerned about that. Plus actually mounting it is very difficult as there's no spot where to screw the amp or a mdf board too. Unless I want to screw through the bootlid :P

Cheers :) ...
Deck is bit worse for wear but still works. Hard to find a reason to replace it. Has great sub & eq adjusting options with 3rca output, aux, usb etc I considering getting a unit with time alignment of some sort and a different backlight colour.
Love my morel splits. They are fantastic. Picked them up for a steal as well. 60% off RRP :D
Nice two channel....
It is a decent little amp. It is pumping out 80 odd rms for the splits which seem enough. Max nominated power for the splits is 140wrms but I doubt I'll ever get it loud enough to need so much power. It is a bit old (probs around 2-3 years) so wondering if I bother to continue using it for anouther few years.

Thanks for the suggestion. Just wondering why would you recommend a D class mono amp + an average AB amp, instead of running one 4ch amp? I would've thought a brand new 4ch response would be better than the Alpine and some other mono amp?
Any suggestions for sub/amp to use?

Got a few plans in the pipline to use some fibreglass. Definitely want to give it a try.
Nice box you made. Looks very pro. Just gotta get rid of that bracket somehow :-P

The plan was to still make a typical square sealed box for the sub however it would utilise the gap between the top of the false floor and the lowest point of the spare tyre weld. Probably get my engineering mates involved to work out how high the false floor should go to get maximum volume from the box. Having a space saver would give more height to work with.

Haha not a bad idea! I do carry passengers once in a while plus I have a bunch of junk I put across the back so I might look into other options first but thanks for contributing none the less.

D class mono's are ok, yet to hear a sub sound bright :0....Signal to noise and distortion rates on the jaycar might be disappointing. Just coz its new, doesn't mean its perfect..
The Response brand pretty much trades on it's reputation as being a excellent value for money when you are talking about the AB class 4x100 (4x130), but go from Alpine to Response..I wouldn't.
Thanks for comment on my box, the pic is as it was a first, but I tore it out the other day, stripped it of the material and inspected for cracks and leaks, it was all good, so was recovered, and remounted. The lpg carpet is also missing, its on the box, I'm thinking of hammer painting it. (the tank).
I have a new lens on the way, waiting for a Shoot.
And some sub wave lengths are as long as a bus, the further you can get from them the better. If you get the opprtunity....

That sub copped a bad reveiw over at MEA, with 2/10 on the value for money scale, kinda doesn't sit well with the owner of a magna, which are quite the opposite....

Similar sort of money will get you into a base model JL Audio or even an Option Audio..
Don't make a rushed decision.. Take your time and make a informed decision..

Isn't JL Audio positioned as more of a SPL sub? I'm interesting in achieving a budget SQ setup.
What is everyone's thoughts on the Polk MM1240DVC sub? 9/10 score on a MEA review I don't think is too bad! Only needs a 24L sealed box as well and having dual voice coils means I can wire them in series and run them in 2ohms. Although the 400wrms power it needs suggests that it's probably a pretty loud sub. I'll probably end up fitting a sub controller as well.
Amp wise - I think I might still go with a D class amp. They run more efficiently and use less heat. They're also made for sub setups and usually have better controls. I don't think my ears are not tuned enough to notice the difference and most wouldn't know whether a sub is being powered by a D class or AB class amp anyway. I think It'll come down to more the box I choose, the tuning of the amp and the deadening of the boot. Currently got my eye on a Alpine MRP-350 amp - visually it'll match my current Alphine MRP-240 lol
How much do you want to spend? I'm using a Focal SB P25 10" Performance series subwoofer in pre-fab enclosure at the moment, they're pricey (Think $450-500) but excellent for SQ. Operate very efficiently on their recommended 250w RMS @ 4ohm, so you can get a small amp for power. Happy to give a demo sometime if you're interested.
