View Full Version : TJ tails on an earlier model?

Thinking about sourcing some TJ tails for my TH (not a huge fan of the opaque lights on earlier models) but I want to know if anyone has done it (I'm sure someone has) and how it looks with the odd bootlid shape (how it curves in inline with the garnish).

Bonus points for pics too.

Can't do it mate. Need to swap the boot lid as well.

Thats not exactly true. You can do it, but you wont be opening your boot without wanting to risk breaking the tails. I will soon to have my bootlid for sale. Has 6 holes in it though....

You're right. Not worth doing it because of that. Change the boot lid as well for a good finish.

when the TJ was released, they reshaped the bootlid and the tails so its better to get everything as it fits perfectly

That's Life's car.

Yeah I suppose you can get away with it. Personally I just bought a TJ magna to make life easier :P

A guy called "MagnaAussie" also did the same thing but wasn't long before he bought a TJ bootlid.

Any water get in there? Or is it still sealed?

If you open your bootlid you'll see that there is a big rubber seal that surrounds the boot opening. I dare say you probably won't have any water coming inside the boot but the area around it will probably become a bit dirty. Also if the light doesn't seal well against the body then there's anouther spot where water may come in.

To be honest - it is just easier to get the TJ boot as well. You only need the bootlid to be slightly out of alignment and when you slam it down it'll crush the light.

OP come up to melbourne sometime and check out Jollys in ringwood. They have a white TJ (http://www.jollysringwood.com.au/eziparts/Display_Vehicle.asp?PriceListID=0&VehicleID=92&Location=jollysringwoodcomau&VehicleDesc=Mitsubishi%20Magna%20TJ%2008/00-08/03) with a good condition boot. You could probably get the lights and bootlid for less than $200.

Grouse. I'm planning on coming down to Melbourne when i take holidays. Intend on saving up enough to drive down and (hopefully) grab the parts to do climate, cruise and power windows.

They don't happen to have any kashmir TJ onwards, do they?

Yeah, I'm going to source the parts for him, but I would like to do the installing as I like the experience.

well from the research i have done. climate control retrofit is a big job and mal may also give a warranty on his work, not sure you need to ask him
