Anyone here changed the stock stereo out for an aftermarket double din unit? What was your experience with it? I'm interested in buying a 380 (SX/VRX) and was wondering how easy/painful it was to do it, and if it turned out any good (stock LCD display/steering wheel controls)?

Thanks :D

I know you will got a com error if you replace your stock stereo system.

Why not just replace speakers and buy sub and amps? The stock head unit is fine in the 380 and as long as you have sufficient amps you should have all the power you need?

Want an aux-in port for my phone, would rather not have to burn disks constantly.....

I bought a double din for my car. Kenwood DPX U5120. Cool unit. No problems so far. Dont have the steering wheel controls but will you really listen to the radio when you have AUX?

I have just added an aux port to the factory 380 stereo :) I added a 4 channel amp to the interior speakers, and a 2 channel one for the sub in the boot.

Bought from Jaycar a high level to low level converter, a noise suppressor and a line output volume controller - Total cost from Jaycar $34.95.

I have an aux switch to switch between the factory deck and the ipod connection - the ipod runs direct to the amps and using the Jaycar volume controller I am able to control the volume. Flick the switch and the factory deck has control of the amps and sub.

Works a treat :) I can give me details if required.

Very interested also fantaysia.
I had a sub and amp fitted - that's it. Everything else is stock. A mate helped me and we 'piggybacked' the audio signal from the rear-speaker wires (underneath the bum where the rear left passanger would sit).
Had that done about 2 1/2 years ago without any problems and sounds great :D

I've since changed my setup to a Pioneer 2450BT deck - I still stand by my mod and the factory deck sounds good but when you connect an iPod directly to your car amps it makes the factory deck sound a bit flat. I ran my iPhone with no EQ either. I ran a high level converter from the deck into an aux switch so I could select the deck or the iPhone. I controlled the volume of the sub and the iPhone separately with some line level volumes from Jaycar. I'm not good at drawing diagrams and stuff but anyone has any questions feel free :-)

Installation is a breeze!! I got a double din dvd and fits perfectly. Currently selling the 6 cd stereo with fascia on ebay as we speak for $230... i didnt even know they were worth that much.. (at least that cut half the costs of the new stereo ) :D
Tonight i'm going to attempt to install the reverse camera.
New 6X9's at the back and 6" sony splits at the front - all amped.. sounds amazingg
