gday guys,
im getting a smell which i think is coolant, in the cabin of the car. consequently im driving with the windows all the way down now. ive noticed that the rocker covers are leaking oil down the back recently. ill be fixing that this wkend.
any ideas on where such a coolant smell could be coming from? and yes i am losing coolant atm, but nowhere that i can see at this point. im topping up 1-2 l's of coolant each wk.

are the front floors wet, particularly the front left wet could be a heater core issue

this happened to me and found that there was a hole in my coolant pipe,
look under your bonnet see if anything is steaming after going for a drive (Y)

if it's coolant its heater core. Check under the carpet in the passenger footwell.

Not necessarily. Could be any number of things. Heater core is most likely but it might be a leak in the engine bay somewhere. You need to check all coolant lines throughout the engine bay if the heater core issue is ruled out.

true. it takes 10 seconds to check passenger footwell, if thats dry and shows no sign of leaking than that i'd clean the engine bay spotless then look for the green coolant dripping or pooling.
i had this problem few months back, it was my heatercore that was leaking, the core wasnt leaking itself but the plastic tubes that bolt onto the core were cracked.

yeah thats what i mean, mine were the same. the actual box was fine but the tubes had just aged and split a bee's dick but enough to fill up my footwell. plus the outside air intake under the black plastic near the windshield, the cover stopping water coming in had shifted enough that it funneled water in... haha

All roads lead to heater core leaking.

Heater core is behind the dash. You will need to take it out which will take some hours for a beginner to do. Once the dash is out, its a relatively simple procedure to replace it.

You need to take the whole dash out. It's a bloody big job. I would go and get a service manual and work off that. alternatively, bring it to a mechanic. Bring lots of money

There are some threads where the process is outlined in detail. Search.
I tried but can't find it. Anyone?
I remember reading on here that you don't neet to take out the whole dash. PM Mal (Madmagna) for advice. From memory, just need to remove the glovebox lid.

Depends on the model of Magna too apparantly. I think personally this is not a job for anyone thats a novice, just my opinion here.
Also, lady at work had a crash and got her car back and then there was computer problems and the dash then caught fire/smoke etc. Apparantly coolant from heater core went into ECU, caused car to run like crap, then dash wires smouldered and shorted out.
Long story, new wiring loom, dash out, heater core changed and fixed, new computer, all put back, $2k!
Hmm, issue is there is a plastic coveing the ECU where moist air from the leaking coolant can condense and drop onto the ECU. Happened to someone here from memory.
