I've just noticed over the past few days my driver door window getting clearly visible vertical scrape marks towards the centre of the window obviously from rubbing against the window seal. Wondering if anyone else has had this and how to stop it from further scraping. Do I have to take the whole window out, open the door casing etc. or what? Also is there any way to buff out the scrape marks? They are quite fine and can't feel them when i run my finger over them but they are visible. Also would buffing or polishing ruin tint in any way?

My window has a verticle strip about 3cm wide in my tint that looks like from something scraping inside the door, not sure how to fix it either, need to before I get new tint though

Just clean the window seals. Dirt or grit on them will mark the glass.
If the scrape marks are on the tint, it's pretty much ruined, buffing won't help. If it is on the actual glass, a new window is the only way to fix it.

How do i stop dirt from getting into the seal in the future? Isn't there something wrong with the seal if enough dirt is getting in there to mark the window?? Perhaps the seal might need to be replaced? The car has only been freeway driven, never been on any dirt roads. If the window isn't tinted can it then be buffed and/or polished? The vertical lines are quite fine, I can't even feel them.

Most 380's I've seen have this problem. My car does it, my old 380 did it as well as my ex's and one of my good mates. Thought about changing the glass but not if the same thing is to happen again....

Every car I have ever owned has done this

This hasn't happened to any other cars at my house except for my old ford falcon and that was after 16 to 17 years. We also have a hyundai i30 and a 2009 tarago. It's probably just a random occurrence though. I'm still looking for answers to my last post above. Not sure if MadMax knows much about the subject...

Bump for more opinions.

Oh, thanks for the vote of confidence!
Pull the seal off and see why it is scratching the glass. Give it a good clean. Put it back on.
AFAIK there are no products that will get scratches out of glass, but I could be wrong.

I've just started getting this on mine too, I'd say give the seals a good wipe over and check it out. I have to park my car around the corner from my house, as there's a gum tree that drops tiny specs of sap. It gets everywhere and probably marks the windows too.

When I purchased my 380 it had pretty severe scratches on the outside of the driver's side front window. I could feel them if I ran my nail across it. I found it easier to replace the window with brand new door glass from Mitsu - $66 which is really cheap!

To the OP, yes there are businesses which do glass polishing to remove scratches. I've been told however if it is deep enough to catch your nail in, it's too deep to polish out. Secondly, I'd imagine the cost of labour to do a window would be more than the cost of the replacement glass.

WhenI replaced mine (which is very easy - remove door card, undo two bolts, pull glass out from outside, push new glass in from the same way, do bolts back up), I removed the outside window runner and sprayed it with some automotive fabric cleaner. Scrubbed it with a toothbrush to a lather, rinsed and allowed to dry. Sprayed with a silicon fabric sealant (this one was made to waterproof boots) and again allowed to dry. Haven't had any problems since! My passenger side rear window has some scratches too though, so I may replace that too before tinting.
