Can anyone please give some advise what the problem might be. I just noticed recently after driving and walking around the back area I can smell some petrol but it goes away. I can't see any fuel drips underneath when I parked it at the garage so I don't know where the smell is coming from. If any can give some advice, it woulb be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sorry mate i misread it as the smell is inside the car. I'd be checking the fuel lines and connections with fuel pump/fuel filter. The fuel may be leaking and running down the fuel hose and evaporating.

You wouldn't find any fuel drop marks as the fuel evaporates very quicky ( i worked in a servo and handled the shit for a while )

Does it happen after just a start up? or a long/short drive?

Maybe, jack the car up and put it on stands, get a mate to start it and see if you can find a leak. Best if you jacked both the front and rear up to make it level.

Check the seal is working on the fuel cap.

Thanks presti..i noticed it after long/short drive.i checked it a while ago it seems to be on the fuel entry/fuel door whatever where the smell is coming from. Maybe i have to go take it to the shop as i am worried it might ignite. Thanks

if it's a 'clicking' noise then yes. Thats showing that its tight and you can't over tighten it. Might pay to go to the wreckers and get another one, would be cheap as chips, and see if that helps, if it's from the fuel cap area then it would be that

The filler is connected to the fuel tank with a flexible pipe. It may be leaking from there. Remove the left hand side boot liner and have a look if the clamps are still tight and the hoses are undamaged.
