Hey guys. I just did a front pad change on TE 3.0lt. (96). Just took it for a drive to make sure things are fine but I lost my power steering. It eased up the more I turned. It first it was really stiff but now it's fine. I'm rather scared to drive it anywhere as I'm not insured. Do you think it's safe to drive and what checks an I make?

Check power steering fluid, and make sure you haven't caught the flexi brake hose to the caliper anywhere

Common sense. Do not drive a faulty car. Get it looked at.

Brakes and steering is nothing to be toyed with, if your fluid and cables checks still have you pondering call a mobile mechanic to look at it.

Everything checked out A+ took the car for another drive just to the end of my street and it was fine.

Brakes just needed to be bedded in my the sounds of it.

Now, as for insurance.

Not sure how changing brake pads could alter your steering unless you really messed up

2 words of advice

Get someone to work on your car as brakes and steering are not to be messed with if you are not experienced
Get insurance as only a moron would be stupid enough to drive with out insurance. If you have third party property as a min (think you need to have in QLD anyway) all good

Third party is compulsory in Queensland. Remember, third party only covers damage to other people. It does NOT include damage that you do to other vehicles.

Most insurance policies - whether comprehensive or third party - will not cover you if your vehicle is defective and you drive it anyway. So for the love of all things holy, do not drive your car until your issue is remedied....

I was under the impression that third party property insurance was also compulsary in QLD thus you are covered for damage to other property

For those who are a little confused

Third Party (every state has this in various forms) covers injury to anyone involved in an accident
Third Party Property is for damage physical items that your car may cause
Comp, well that is a no brainer

So as Red stated, if you dont have third party property at very least DONT DRIVE, if your car is defective, DONT DRIVE IT. If you can not afford to fix the car and get the appropiate insurance you cant afford to own a car so TAKE THE BUS

Personal injury only (http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/Registration/Registering-vehicles/Registering-motor-vehicles-and-motorbikes.aspx#ctp):

"[CTP] indemnifies vehicle owners and drivers who are legally liable for personal injury to any other party in the event of a motor vehicle accident."

Yeah get 3rd party property damage.... you are insane if you don't. Companies like aami are very reasonable when it comes to it and will fork out upto 20 million if need be to cover you hitting a petrol station causing it to explode lol
